Had my wet belt changed in the summer just to ease my mind.
Bought my van brand new 7 years ago. It’s now got 34, 350 miles on it, and with such low mileage I’ve still had it serviced every year.
I test drived several vans and the custom was a far superior drive in my opinion than any other. The turning circle is ridiculously good for a van.
My mate delivers parcels in his. It has a wet belt and has done 240 000 miles.
Apart from the usual running repairs he’s hardly put a spanner to it. Brilliant vans

From what I read they are only replacing the timing wet belt, the oil pump wet belt is staying as a wet belt! Which sounds weird as I thought it was the oil wet belt failing that either blocks the oil pickup and creates oil starvation or the bits and pieces wrap round the timing belt and cause that to fail. I'm guessing that the extended oil change intervals isn't helping either. If you have a wet belt get the oil changed at least every year.

I'm guessing Ford are addressing it as it's costing them money, I doubt they are bothered when it costs a customer.
When I had mine done the guy said it’s mainly the actual belts they had trouble with. Once you have the upgraded one fitted, it should be fine as long as it’s serviced properly

I’m exactly the same as you bought new 2018 and had it serviced every year with oil change regardless of recommended service intervals.Mine is on almost identical mileage.
I’ll get the belt done on mine first quarter of next year.
Looked after the custom is a great van and great to drive.

I actually borrowed Grippatank’s demo van a LWB vivaro it was a horrible van compared to the transit.

i was chatting to streamline about customs he was saying they have had some belts snapping also as the belt starts to break up it then causes the oil pick up feed pipe to block so you get oil starvation to turbo and balls up that too
