Shurflo pump

hi all

HELP !!

I am trying to kit out this new van.

I have put my shurflo diaphragm pump in and can't get water through it. I have it up to it and into the small filter but will not come through. I'm assuming it has an air lock from when I took it off.

does anyone know how to shift an airlock in these pumps.

I'm using in conjunction with a varistream digital controller..

Have you connected it up the right way round. There is a flow direction arrow.

Is there an issue with the strainer. Try it without.

As @spruce said check you have it right way up. This was my very first mistake when sorting my system. Put it in upside-down and could not figure out what was going on.

I had this problem last week. The pump was working fine, then just stopped dead. I checked the electrics. All fine. I took the water supply off and kind of tapped the pump with my hand and the thing sprung back to life. I reattached the water supply and half an hour later it shut off again.

I got this pump from a friend so gave him a call and yes, it did do this to him on occasion but forgot to mention it!!

I'm not suggesting you do this. But I thought something might be automatically shutting off the water. I took the top part off the pump. Just the little black box bit on the top not the whole top section. In there was two springs. It looked like they pushed down on some shut off valve. I removed the spring that seemed to push on that. Put it back together and it's been fine ever since. Two weeks full time work.

As I said. I'm not saying to do this. There must be a reason those springs and valve were there. I just think I had a malfunctioning pump. It does now let a constant drip of water through. But I can shut my water supply off at the tank so that isn't an issue.

It still works with the flo controller and turns off asu usual.

I sometimes have to put pump on full and give it a tap to get air lock out.I used to get them a lot

Gav, it should work either way. I was asking if he had the inlet from the tank on the outlet of the pump, so the pump would be pumping air into the tank rather than sucking water from the tank.

The other thing to check is that the stop cock on the tank outlet (if he has one) is open not closed.

Hmm didn't seem to be the case for me at the time not sure why. It did work but had quite a bit of air coming through turning it over fixed it.

I managed to solve it shortly after I posted, then went out to work ( finally! ) hence the late reply..

I thought I was being clever by putting 2 strainers in line before the pump ( cos 1 kept getting lots of sediment in it ) as soon as I went back to one I had water flow. still can't really work out why it should make a difference , but it did?
