Hi

Have recently been making pure water in my garage and need a pump to transfer it to my van.

Can anyone recommend what they use and where is the place to get one?

What type do I need and how much is it?

I am only transferring about 200 litres at a time from a water butt to my van.

many thanks in advance

I use this one Titan Pump it will be easily placed inside a water butt, they also sell the reinforced transfer hose as well depending on how much you need

hi, i have just gone through this process setting my own up and used the following.

by far the cheapest braided hose i found anywhere

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/New-PBT-PVC-Braided-Hose/202755389155?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&var=502893110389&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649

this was the transfer pump i plumped for

https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B079PS8775/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o06_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

a few points to note, if you use a hose pipe to transfer it will take a hell of a lot longer than with a bigger diameter pipe, i went for the inch & half braided hose and it transfers in no time at all.

another side not i found is that even when i turned my pump off the syphon effect still drew water through so i lift my pump out the water when done to avoid this

Good luck

I use this  Flexible Pond Hose  it can be folded in half , driven over etc and is really durable I use 30 metres in total and have had mine for quite a few years now, with certain weighty electrical items such as a sub pump I would try and buy locally as if it breaks down it can very easily returned and you can get a replacement the same day

I use the Titan 400 pump works a treat but like Baldmonkey said will take along time to fill up with garden hose, if i remember rightly Screw fix has put the price right up over the last year for their Titan 400 pump, used to be around the £35 mark

If you tie some cord securely near the open end of the transfer hose and tie a loop on it, you can clip it up to something after doing the transfer. As long as the open end is higher then the tank it can't syphon. A dog clip or Caribeener will do the job the finest.

bugger me funny you should say that but i have used some 1/4 tubing and i have done that but on the pump end as my water pipe goes up to the foof, along and out the side of the workshop roof where it drops down again. works a treat when i turn the pump off i litrally lift the loop onto the hook and air enters the system to stop the flow fully, great minds and all that ??

What are we talking about here ?

Thanks guys

In the end I bought a draper pump from tool station £41 which I thought was ok.

Ive used it 3 times so far to empty a 210 litre water butt.

It does it fast and efficiently so no complaints whatsoever.

Since moving areas I’ve been buying a few tanks from spotless... you can’t beat the convenience and quality is good and the fast dispenser.

However its its expensive compared to making your own so the tax deductible pump will soon pay for itself !

Thanks for everyone’s input....

im  still using a pond pump,  1inch hose,  220 water butt  takes around   15 minutes.   Ill have to start spending some money I thinks.

Ive seen someone with a hand tap  on the end of a hose to fill up.   like the petrol pumps have.     Any pics to give an idea how to connect to the filling end of hose to go into tank
