Sunglasses

Looking to buy some sunglasses for work with durability and good sunlight protection. Any recommendations? Thank you in advance.

I've been using Oakley sunglasses for a while now, and they've been holding up great at work. Solid durability and excellent sun protection. Definitely worth checking out! I read on this website about some of the negative effects to watch out for when choosing sunglasses. It's always good to stay informed!

I got these a few weeks ago as I left my last ones in my van after I had an accident. Down to £90 on john lewis. I cant work without them when the sun comes out.

I don't see the point of paying in excess of £30.00 for sunglasses for work if you don't have to, I am still wearing my 12 year old raybans,

I wear prescription glasses all the time, so getting sunglasses with polarised lenses is quite pricey into the £100's

Lower end sunglasses don't give the same protection as the more expensive ones give you. With having to look up into the sun frequently, I'd rather pay a bit extra. You only get one set of eyes.

I actually looked into it before because I didn't see the point in buying expensive ones for work either. I'd probably argue that in out job you should buy expensive ones for work and cheaper ones for on holiday.

I can’t comment on all brands but I have a cheap pair of dirty dog ones for work cost around £35 I also have a very expensive pair of raybans for best the specifications are the same for both regardless of price as I looked into this at the time , the quality of the lenses and frames is different but not the eye protection given from uv rays etc the blurb with them dealing with all the things they protect the eyes from is pretty much identical. The optician said there was no difference in the specification only the quality of the frames and you are paying for a brand name .

I managed to get some Transitions Driveware prescription glasses from Asda about 2 years ago as they are the only prescription polarising photochromatic lenses that I could find plus Asda did do them for the same price as standard transitions lenses £50. They no longer sell Driveware lenses!
They are good but they never go completely clear, they have a yellow tint if no sun, then go darker when/if the sun comes out.
I'm not convinced they feel any better for my eyes than my normal pair of prescription transitions glasses.

Asda do now sell the new version of transitions that react to all light not just uv, so they work behind the windscreen. They are not polarising though!

I doubt that's true, but I rate my old Raybans and my new Oakley ones

I prefer polarised lenses as they cut out the glare, I needed some new ones for best well just walking etc on a weekend, I nearly choked when they gave me the price for the lenses at Vision express plus dispensing costs were a lot more than the cost of the frames which were just over £100,

The lenses in my new shades are a lot better than the old ones, I'm just hoping the frames hold up for as long as my raybans, because the prices are shocking these days

Try Asda Opticians they are reasonably priced especially for the lenses. I wanted to try varifocals for laptop and tv watching, frame with thinned varifocal lenses £45! Their frames include lenses with thinning, varifocal etc only extra is tints/photochromatic at about £55.
I think my transitions glasses plus DriveWare glasses with Nike semi rimless where £230 all in for both.

I do have some very old Raybans (bosch and lomb) that I do love but I don't wear contact lenses any more. They sold out to a fashion brand who cut costs.

I went to Boots and their prices are shocking, frames are expensive then the cost of the lenses is huge.

You're lucky you don't live in North Devon. We wear swimming snorkels as it's always raining and we still don't know what the sun looks like

I used Specsavers for around 25 years and their prices weren't bad, but bad customer service made me switch to Vision Express, I don't do busy environments these days so I couldn't be chewed with Asda, I only felt I got stung on the sunglasses lenses,as I've had two pairs of normal glasses just standard lenses and the prices are reasonable.

Alot of the cheaper ones don't give you uv protection. Or of they do, there not 100%.
