Been to the gym today and when I returned my van has been broken into they have forced the side door and taken everything. A gutter vac hose and poles, a backpack, about 10 brushes, a bucket full of small tools, all my hand gear!! I'm devasted. I have public liability through gleaming and I'm sure I read they cover £1000 worth of tools?? Don't know where to start. Not sure my tools are insured with my van insurance either. Gutted

Feel your pain!

Hope you get insurance sorted fast and get going again

I don't understand  how people commit robbery as a way of life and take from the working man.

Best of luck

Totally gutted for you, it must be fairly devastating you have obviously been targetted as thieves just don't steal window cleaning equipment etc for no reason as they are specific items which are only good to another window cleaner.

Sorry to hear this fella.

Is there any one on hear, close to your area that can lend you a old pole and reel, even a pump box to keep you going.

If any one local to him reads this help him out.

You would need the help if it happend to you.

Keep your eyes peeled on eBay and gum tree the silly little scum bags will try and sell them on there.

**** happens.

I assume you reported it to the Police.Normally they would just take a report and unlikely to do any investigation.

A mate of mine had this situation and spoke to company’s and houses near to the theft and found some CCTV which had captured the theft. They got nicked and he got some of his property back.

you need to do this quickly as CCTV recording isn’t always stored for long.

Good Luck chap.

Cheers Dabber

Total low-lifes. gutted for you mate. its common even in the nice areas for tradesmans vans to get broke into. Im not a muslim, but that cutting hands off law would certainly make the lazy sods think twice.

Good idea,

GSS, Presuming you have a van mount system, I can loan you a hose reel, pole & brush if you need it. Could meet you or bring it to you tomorrow night depending where you are.

Sorry to hear the bad news there fella, I hope you can recoup your losses somehow. Like Iron Giant says it sounds like you've been deliberately targeted - who the hell wants to steal window cleaning equipment? - to the average joe it's just a long broom. Keep an eye on scpock,  gumtree, ebay, local bootsales, even ring the local tip / recycling site and see if they can keep an eye open for any long poles. Your stuff is out there somewhere and whoever has it will want to shift it asap as it's roasting hot, rare and going to be like a beacon shining in the night when they try to get rid of it - but they can't hang on to it for long either.

Until you get any claim sorted, you've unfortunately got a few days off work so turn detective and monitor everything where people sell stuff. Put adverts in the local papers too - make that gear so hot that it burns a hole in the crooks butt.

If the thief is found there's still the chance that they've disposed of some /all of your gear. Here's where it can get tricky.. The police might prosecute them and recover your costs via the courts (which will go to the insurers if there's been a payout - you should get the leftover to cover any other stuff that wasn't paid out on). They might not bother for whatever reason - in which case you could then sue the crook yourself via moneyclaim online (though if the police don't have enough evidence you won't either). However there is another thing you must be very careful of - the thief might offer to square up with you in return for dropping the charges. DO NOT accept that offer if the police put it to you - once you accept it, it's legally a civil issue and if the thief doesn't keep their end of the deal the police won't get involved so you must be clear that you'd prefer to stick to pressing charges and letting the courts sort it out for you.

I hope you get sorted out quickly..

So sorry to here that mate.

Two weeks back I forgot to lock my van whilst round the back of a house. When I came out some tos*er had tried to force my ignition and mullered it so bad that I couldn’t get my key in.

Had to be towed home, have two days off until my mate sorted it out.

Reading this has made me paranoid.

Just phoned my insurance (Aviva) and they will only cover tools inside up to the value of £500 ?.

Sorry to hear that mate.. Low life scumbags..

It happened to a bloke I know a few mo ths back. He had a drain jetting business. Stole his drain camera which was worth thousands.

I think sometimes when they rob specialised equipment it's been stolen to order..

Hope you get yourself back on your feet.

Very sorry to hear about that GSS. Hope you get your equipment back. Sadly if you don't get it back, another thing to be aware of is, if they manage to shift it they may well come back at some time in the future. If they have found a market they will have found out what they can get for it. They will also assume that you've probably replaced it with new equipment fairly quickly. I'd be very seriously thinking of upping your security, if you can.

Sadly, it's the world we live in.

Good luck.

You saying that, I heard of a cargo container that was opened by police a few months back - full of stolen tools etc that had been nicked then put into storage. The thieves would then leave the stuff there for months until it had been forgotten about and then sell it.

Specialist gear wouldn't be easy to shift immediately so that could be happening here in this case. I completely forgot about it until reading your reply.
