Traditional Window Cleaning in winter

Hi Everyone, I'm new to the forum so forgive me if this has already been answered. What's your view on using traditional window cleaning methods in the rain? & are your customers okay about it.

Customers are strange about rain. I have some who are fine about it, others will pass remark, "Not good weather for window cleaning" etc.

I try not to work too much in the rain, but needs must. Bills to pay etc. It is easier with wfp to be honest. Trad can be hard work if the rain is hitting the glass.

Welcome @DavieB :thumbsup:. I find there's nothing worse than blading a rained on window, no slip, pigs ear of a job :thumbsdown:

I live here on the west coast of Scotland and all it seems to do is rain, i tried dodging in and out of the showers but gave up after getting to 3rd house, as i don't think they would appreciate me cleaning the windows and minutes later rain is belting off them. I think i may need to invest in the WFP system if this weather continues. I haven't long set up this business (2 months), so finding it hard going with the weather, not even had a proper wage yet.

Love the west coast of Scotland particularly Oban. Difficult one in investing money in WFP if you haven't been going long and not many customers. Could you afford WFP?

To be honest, no! I have tried engaging my customers in a questionnaire/quote request app i made online, but so far only one person has used it. It's linked to my facebook page so i can see how many times it has been used and i get an email with the quote request. I have also written a software database which i am happy to share for free, it's not brilliant but it works.

its a popular misconception that MOST customers are anti-cleaning-in-the rain. in fact the majority couldnt care less . i lost about half a dozen when i started working in the rain,the moaner brigade- same sort who hates snow , and who wants them??

if you ever employ workers you need to be very clear before takin on that youll be workin in the rain boyo and u moan and ur out .

It was raining on me today, but it wasn't enough to stop me. It's all a matter of degree.

I too worked through the rain today. People get used to you doing it. I still stand by the fact that trad tools are not ideal in the rain, it is very hard work trying to get a good finish if the rain is hitting the glass.

I'm not sure what to do, as i have only been going for 2 months and really can't afford to lose any customers, but then, i suppose the amount of time it rains, means if i'm not out working, i'm not earning so working in the rain may well be the way to go and if it means losing some customers then so be it, at least i will still be earning something.

I find that most of my customers are ok about it but I tend to defer a 'first clean' until it's not raining as that can be a real pain!

Like you though DavieB I've only been in the game a few months so learning as I go along.

Saying that, today I did a first clean on a 6 bed house in sun, rain, hailstone and snow. Very cold and hard work but still a good result and a happy customer.

Where abouts in the west coast are you DavieB? I'm from Ayrshire, been pishing down here for a solid week and I'm a few days behind on some custies, but been out doing a big care home gutter job, only been going 3 months too, keep at it mate
