Vehicle Signage Ideas

I paid £330 to have my Berlingo done he used 3m vehicle wrapping vinyl the lad I used does flashy graphics on sports cars as well as business vehicles he was the most expensive out of the quotes I got but said he would use the best vinyl in hindsight I think he was charging top dollar and could maybe just pluck figures out the air,
I do think they make these prices up. I had the Doblo done in 2021, that was the first time I’d used a pro. I think it was £230+vat. 6 months later I asked for a quote for the dispatch. They quoted me £450+vat. There wasn’t really any more signage than the Doblo in truth. The Doblo is a bigger van than it looks, it’s just low down. Went back to them about a year later because the signage desperately needed changing. They required me around £350+vat. When their installer left I found where he was working and had my next van done there. £450+vat. Just gone to this other firm my accountant recommends and he’s £250-300 depending on the size of the design. He has got 3 vans to do this time which may change things a little 🤷🏼‍♂️

I think some just take the pee, I found him because he shares the premises with another lad who does window tinting great first experience with getting windows tinted and built up a bit of rapport with both lads, just sometime after their customer service with not responding to messages for extra work we were wanting to be done etc, we just felt like they were taking the pish when they finally responded with sky-high prices

Most of these fellas don’t just do vehicles. I think they hate doing vehicles and would much rather be doing big signs. As a result they’ll quote you high when they’re busy and low when they’re not? Just a theory but I think it stacks up.

I’m guilty of not responding to people though 🤦🏼‍♂️

This reminds me I was supposed to get back to someone on Thursday whoops 🤣

Edit: just double checked it was last Wednesday
I’ve always intended to get on it, answer every call where possibly. Call back where not. It seems whatever resources I pull in we use. If I get another staff member we get more work and end up as busy and I end up not getting back to people. I lost a customer last week because I’d taken her number down wrong, we were running a day behind but didn’t make it for the first clean. She was fuming, cash payer who had waited in for us 🤦🏼‍♂️🤷🏼‍♂️

Bit like us really one may clean a 3 bed semi for a fiver someone else might be twenty five pounds it’s all about what each one wants to earn and their overheads
In my experience the fellas doing things on the cheap have those prices for everyone. The fellas who charge higher prices the same. Essentially I’m saying windies are a little more consistent with prices. I felt the sign writers base it on how busy they are. I often feel builders do the same based on how much they have on.

I had the main recessed panels and web site along the sills done when I first got the van and that was about £350. I wanted a list of services on the sides and rear as one of my customers didn't realise I did conny roofs, gfs etc and asked me if I did. For lists of 4 phrases on sides and rear was going to be about £250! So I bought a vinyl cutting machine (Silhouette cameo) and the vinyl for about the same money and did it myself. It is limited to 305mm high and 18m long so not good for wraps :). All looks great, straight and positioned correctly plus I have the machine for other branding including tee shirts etc.

I keep using CGH's design to describe to my wife what I want. She doesn't like it, tells me its boring haha.
She’s right you should listen to her😂.
In all honesty I used to clean residential had a cheap van and basic sign writing and it worked.
I made a decision to downsize and get shot of all my residential and change branding slightly.I don’t want Dorris ringing me for a window clean anymore. The style of sign writing I have especially with the 0800 number probably wouldn’t work great in terms of inquiries on residential.
It depends what you are trying to achieve with sign writing create a brand or bring in work?
@P4dstar you’ve already got a few vans you can afford to be brave.
Another option for ideas is to follow or look at local sign writers on instagram.
My sign writers are called asap - all signs and print if you want to look them up.

I’ve looked them up. I’ve looked loads and loads over and I just don’t know what will work. I think I want something in between what you have and what I currently have. I see what you mean about the target market, I probably need to remember I’m 85% commercial and need to appeal to the general public as well as showing a level of professionalism. I’m leaving it to the sign writing fella, I’ve given him my ideas and I’ll see what he comes back with. He’ll have something this week he said.
