Working on christmas eve

This made me laugh..
You're doing a favor? Just like all the bus drivers, shop assistants, cab drivers, waiters, bar men, police, firemen, medics, nurses, doctors, care assistants etc etc etc etc. That will work to service us all over the holiday. Are they doing us a favor? Shall I empty my bank account to tip them?

I am now done on regular work for the year. I have a grand total of 1 box of Milk Tray gifted to me by a client. Bothered? Nope. Gonna give em to next doors kids anyhow, staying off the chocolate.

I'm touched that we are all so deeply Christian that we feel this sense of entitlement to time off at this time of year (based on religeous belief of course)

No tips, no tips, waahhhhhhh....:gush: I for one am simply glad that my custys are decent enough look after me all year round by engaging my service, by keeping my bills paid and my family fed.

As some know my wife does domestic work for some of my customers and she's done all right on tips this year but I guess when working inside the home there's more interaction.

Now how much are you all tipping your bin man this year? Milk man if you have one? Perhaps the Tescos delivery driver if you have your groceries delivered?

Where should I send the tips for those nice PPI people that phone me every week to check in?

I'll be tipping the bin men absolutely nothing because they're useless buggers and leave rubbish,bins and recycling boxes strewn across the street. I'll give the Ocado driver a fiver though. I always bung them a couple of quid anyway because they can never park directly outside my house plus I have steps leading up to my front door. I've worked low paid jobs in the past and even a few quid tip can make your day as it makes you feel valued and appreciated. I'm not religious in the slightest but I feel entitled to take as much time as I want off over Xmas. I've worked hard this year, missed my family holiday through my dad's illness, only taken three or four days off in the last year and, for me, Xmas is a time to be spent with family and friends :thumbsup:

Bang on. Its not about the religious aspect for me either. Its that its good opportunity to have time off as most people are at home relaxing and I don't want to disturb them, also, the pubs, shops etc are all vibrant, so want to join in and enjoy myself.

I'm still pretty surprised that all you've had from the hundreds of homes that you service is a box of milk tray. I've had cash tips from about 20% of my customers, 6 or 7 bottles of wine and 3 boxes of chocolates...christmas cards etc...

If you go the extra mile to provide good value for money as we all should then surely theres good will enough for a tip somewhere! It's not a necessity but I always tip hard working tradesmen if they are working for me around christmas time.

It's funny because loads of my online payers have tipped me. I've got significantly more online payers than cash payers. I had another one earlier.

Saying 'keep the change' is a nice gesture, as is people who add a little on their cheque/online.

But what I find touching is what's happened twice this week. Two of my customers, whose windows I cleaned over 4 weeks ago, so told them next visit is in the new year, have sent me cards with cheques in them even though they paid me on the day.

So to actually write out cards, send them and put in a Xmas box I find very nice /emoticons/smile.png

I've worked out tips are pretty much related to how you get on with your customers and also it tenda to be the ones you speak to collect cash.

I have recieved 4 tips this year and all of them are always in when I clean and pay cash and all of them are nice people who i have a bit of a chat with.

The ones who haven't tipped are either ones who are never in so I never speak to or if they are in they generally don't answer other than maybe a hello as they pay online

So yes if you get along with your customers you are much more likely to get tips.

Regarding tipping the bin men. I always tip them and the milk man.

My house is the only one on the st that the bin men come up my drive and take all 3 bins (black.recycling and garden waste regardless whats in them) and them put them back again.

Crate of beer and £10 between them sees my bins always emptied..

Had 1 hours work to finish, then on way home mrs rang to say ours and her sisters turkeys which we got out of freezers yesterday to defrost were both off and rancid! 2 hours on a turkey hunt, paid way over the odds for them, then dropped her sisters off and took her kids to there dads. On way home get asked to get wrapping paper for the in laws, went to 4 different shops, no paper. Then get a call "get slippers for my nan off the kids" off to asda. Find paper and slippers, head home. Was supposed to be home at 10, just walked in now. Quick cuppa then prep veg for tomorrow, food, sort kids out and get them to sleep, pick her sisters kids up, wrap the last few prezzies, get all of it under tree, build a few prezzies up, clean downstairs, then get ready to be woken up at 5am to a overexcited 4 year old and a grumpy 18 month old. Ohhh I do enjoy Christmas:zzz:

Wow, bet your knackered!! Total contrast to my day. Got out of bed at ten, dossed about all day doing nothing, now getting ready to go over the pub to get drunk and see in Christmas.

Oh, and because my sons are older now, a lovely lay in tomorrow so we are not tired for the pub tomorrow lunchtime. Sorry, couldn't resist /emoticons/wink.png/emoticons/biggrin.png

I worked on christmas morning when i started in construction as a customer had relatives coming, Im older and less eager to please now.

As for tips 3 customers before christmas all smallish jobs (£200-1k) customer number 1 (porsche on drive, 2m plus house) £5 tip.

Number 2 o.a.p lady approx £400k home £85 tip.

Number 3 ex tradesmen o.a.p approx £500k bungalow £105 tip.

I find people who have family or have done manual jobs themselves look after you more.
