As driving to Morrisons today I seen a good sized area where there looks like a new build just finished, all 3 story houses.

What length WFP will be needed to reach these types of heights comfortably? I was thinking about 30ft to 40ft?

How many poles do you guys own? On is it just 1 for all jobs and buy a good length one? And how many brushes do you guys have. I would like to also do conservatories and solar panels too. So I was thinking a good range? Soft ones for the solar panels specially.

Cheers guys!

You need 25ft max to get to 3 storey. We use 22ft and that does 3 storey easy.

You might be best looking @ unger nlite poles. We just invested in them. 22ft base pole then you add 11ft @ a time for £100+vat per 11ft. Means to can keep extending it and you can use the base pole as a regular daily pole without the extension on. If you buy a 35ft pole you'll also want to get a smaller pole for the 1 and 2 storeys so it can get expensive.....

On the other hand you can get cheapo poles and have a few etc.

You get what you pay for. Our unger pole that goes to 33ft (22ft base plus 11ft extension) cost about £600 but its the business. People will say its expensive, but so what, its good and it paid for itself after 2 days so what's the issue.

You can get cheap starter poles for a couple of hundred quid but I wouldn't.... I always think, never scrimp on tool that you use every day.

I lad who works for me has a pole he loves using and I'm not kidding, it weighs a ton! Our pole that gets to 4 storeys is 2.9kgs, you can work all day with it and can lift it with your little finger literally. I used the other guys pole once and was aching after 10 windows!

I don't mind spending on good kit, As I'm in the army I know about buy cheap buy twice and specially using equipment day in day out. I'm not buying just yet buy need to get this kit list sorted. I have heard these Gardiner Poles are the business.

Where do you buy your kit from @H?

I'm in Sheffield and there's a pretty decent cleaning shop here so I go there first and check prices out. If I can't buy cheaper I'll buy from there..... But internet usually for stuff.

The reason I like the unger poles is you can add to them. Other option would be to buy a huge pole which you need to get to the highest points, but then, for the rest of the time the pole is sat in the van.

I'd like to try one of these grdener poles, but best idea for you is to get to a shop that's got a load of poles and try them out for yourself. Absolutely no good taking what people say as gospel without holding them first. Like I say, the pole the lad has that works for me would would swear by his and say its great, but its just because he's used to it. In reality it is dog dirt and he needs to drag his @ss out of the dark ages!

Lol ok mate!!! I will try find somewhere and check it out mate! Many thanks, for poles and brushes what do you think it would set you back nower days?

i got a 32ft ionics grafter and a 27ft fiberglass pole .

the grafter is a lovely bit of kit to use nice and rigid and quite light as well .

the fiberglass is **** i hate it but hey i didnt buy it the jobcentre paid for it for me so musnt grumble .

That's ok! Thought they where goin to be loads more then that! I would expect the expensive but is fitting the van out!

DIY it.... Defo gotta be something to look into. Is there a guide or a tutorial somewhere?

Mate i spent a lot on starting up....i had money then but now i cant even afford a backpack /emoticons/sad.png lmaoooo :

Well before i even had 1 customer mate ... i bought the following:

SLX25 - for around £300.00 ( 31ft pole ) INC VAT

SMAX40 - for just over £500.00 ( 40 ft pole ) INC VAT

People were saying to me on the forum just start with 1 pole etc... but i knew if the money just sat their i would of spent it on some flyers or something else to do with business so i just went for it and bought it lol

Then i bought a second hand pure freedom trolley mate with 5 x 25ltr barrells : ) for £300.00 ... this was a very good deal to be honest : ) but ive dismantled my trolley and put it all in my van now : )

Then i bought a hose reel from purefredom with 100m hose for £150.00 and got a 350ltr tank which cost me £150.00

then i spent £150 on 15,000 business cards... and i had to bin them ! YES I BINNED THEM LOL ... cos i spelt my company name wrong on it /emoticons/mellow.png i checked it loads of times... but just binned them cos if people notice it looks so unprofessional ! so i ordered 5,000 more only for like 40 quid /emoticons/smile.png and still got over 3500 left /emoticons/tongue.png

and got like 5,000 flyers for 80 quid.... and got over 2,000 left

Ive also spent 3K on my van and got personalied clothing and my van sign written so ive spent quiete a lot of money to be honest.... i pay 70 quid car insurance per week cos my insurance is 3K a year /emoticons/sad.png i ahd to pay 1K upfront ! /emoticons/sad.png lol but its the only way around it....

Ive been trading for 4 months and 2 days now : )

and i got 144 customers : ) worth £1040 per 4 weeks.... so ive been gaining like over 35 customer per month since ive started and am happy with that : )

Ive got like 3 jobs to quote tomorrow aswell : )

My target now is 200 customers : ) before november 10th ( 6 months since i been trading )

Ive been lazy aswell when i got 70 customers... i hardly went canvassing i just sat at home relaxing lol but the best part is most calls came to me /emoticons/tongue.png

I got 1 customers who phoned me of gumtree..... ( i never had a call of gumtree ) And she wanted her flats doing... and when i went their... i picked up 4/5 of her neighbours aswell /emoticons/tongue.png

and then i dropped leaflets in her area and got a few big jobs out of them at like £10-£12 each /emoticons/smile.png so done pretty well their to be honest

canvassing is the way to go.... canvass all the way until u get 80 customers : )

once u got 80 customers keep going.. but this is when u can take your foot of the peddle a bit but if your determined more then me then keep going /emoticons/tongue.png once u hit over 120 customers calls will come 2 u mate /emoticons/wink.png

good luck
