Are window cleaners still allowed to work during Coronavirus (Covid-19)?

Well 95% of self employed will get help BUT not till June. Irrelavent to me as guess whose in the odd 5%, not because im in the over £50k bracket but because hes made it quite clear that to stop fraudulent claims this will only be available to people that have a self assessment from 2018/19 which rules me out as ive only been self employed in 2019/20 and not yet done a self assessment. Chancellors words "those that have been recently self employed we cannot do anything for them"

Random one but from now till June when the payment comes through are you allowed to work for a company PAYE , ive got offered a NHS hgv driving job full time and temporary to help out but not sure of I can work and claim??
You will be in work, I would suggest you will not be able to claim as you will be earning a income. Not a Accountant or Solicitor, so just my opinion.

Yeah good question. I do a little bit of hgv driving on a zero hour contract when I can be bothered. Was gonna step it up a bit over the next few weeks but don’t wanna affect any government payment I might get.
Got a E-Mail from HMRC saying those eligible will be contacted hopefully before June, Presume besides using the Self Assesments to work with, they will also do a search on our unique National Insurance numbers in making their decision who to notify?. Do not know one way or another how they will decide if they flag up someone has been doing PAYE work while wanting to claim due to not being able to carry on their primary business.

Unfortunately no help for me as I also do a job for an employer on a PAYE basis and that pays more than the window cleaning.

Going to be over well over £1500k short per month without the cleaning so I'll be carrying on unless it's made illegal (which I don't think it is presently).
The Grant is because full time windies are not earning any income at moment due to the Virus.....you are!

I think people would be a lot more inclined to cease working if it wasn't for the fact the amount of other trades still working, and the huge amount of joggers, cyclists, dog walkers, walkers that are out. Standing in a garden without anyone there with a pole cleaning windows for ten mins, following government distance guidance is safer than being in a supermarket..
And if someone sh**s in the street...it is ok for you to have a sh*t in the street too?

We are not key workers......not essential but it seems we can as HMRC wants our tax but morally I believe it’s a personal choice now. If you bring it home to your family and then pass it on to someone you know how will you feel. Love of neighbour and providing for family both important principles. How much do you Need and then decide.

Roll on 2021?
Andif  you clean someone in self isolation who subsequently gets the virus...some fingers may point in your direction even if someone else contaminated them.

It is taxable but not repayable, you will only be eligible if you earnt less than £150k over the last 3 years.
As I am not the brightest how will the average calculation work to get it down to a monthly average, I tried doing a calculation of my last 3 years earnings all added together then divided by 3 then divided by 12 I am I right in thinking my calculation would be the correct way of doing the average calculation.

I need your business, turning over a profit of over 50k in under 12 months ?.

A few points.

Nicola Sturgeon has said only essential workers and the police now have the power to pull anyone flouting the rules as of yesterday. She's getting tough.

A window cleaner phoned in to 5live's expert re window cleaning this morning. She immediately said it's a no go as not essential etc only to be over ruled by Nikki Campbell. What's the point of having an expert Nikki ?

Ok so your customers are encouraging you to come. That's great of them, help the worker etc. Now think about any customer that gets the virus, falls seriously ill or worse. The blame game starts and peoples good intentions will change in a flash. Family members could get nasty. Whole housing estates where you work or live could turn sour if a customer and a popular person dies even if they picked it up elsewhere (no one knows) Trying to explain you were careful, wiping handles etc won't mean a thing when emotions are high.

The only answer you will find to the confusion is it's up to you. It's not illegal to move house today but they are giving strong hints to delay. A lot is a legal minefield still. The government are thinking on the hoof.

The it's more dangerous going shopping analogy is ridiculous. Shopping is a necessity so that's why the instruction is not to go regular. Having clean windows isn't.

If your flat broke I get it. it's a frightening situation. Can others who have savings sit it out for another week even? This situation is changing by the hour.

Crazy times

You'll be eligible for universal credit but not for the help offered for the self employed announced today - as you've not been operating long enough. You've just been what they call 'shafted'!!
Some may not be eligible for this either I had a look the other day using a online tool, we have no kids and my wife earns less than £15k per annum and we have some savings and the result was claim JSA if not working at £73 a week.

Completely wise words

Yes , find your last 3 years profit figures , not turnover.

Add all 3 together and then divide by 3. This gives you your average profit.

Minus 20% as he paying 80% and then minus 20% off that too as its taxable.

Divide that by 12 as that gives you a monthly profit figure and then X3 as he is paying for 3 months worth at present. So eg

10k profit -20% = 8000

8000-20%tax = £6400 per year

6400/12= £533 per month

533 x 3 as he's paying 3month worth = £1599 that you will be paid.

Im not in the 50k bracket, im in the self employed for under 1 year so no 2018/19 tax return so all ill get is £94 a week
Ah sorry mate, I've just reread your post. Excuse my eyes. ?

Will it be based on tax years

2016/17

2017/18

2018/19

OR

2017/18

2018/19

2019/20

I started in 2016 so my profit for that year is zero due to buying round and van etc so that'll really throw the average off?
