Help Costing My Water Production?

Hi,

Well this week is buying equipment week

Thing is i am still trying to work out the way to go with my pure water.

I live in a rented place and would have to put in an outside tap whatever. And then run a hose through the house to fill up the van tank either from an IBC or direct from DI

What i am trying to work out and i hope someone can help!!

My TDS is 270

My water charge is £1.20 per cubic mtr

waste water charge is £208. pcm

If i go for twin DI then as i understand it, every litre of water i produce has no waste. So it would be the above costs added together per cubic meter plus the resin cost?

If i go for RO, which i believe i have to because of the tds.....it will cost me the above charge x 3 per litre produced? plus the cost of filters and resin?

Am i thinking along the right lines?

How much do you think it will cost me if i use the twin DI set up, which in my case (rented house) would be easier, but if its going to cost a fortune then i will have to chat to the landlord about putting a shed up.

Anyway, hope this all makes sense and hope you can help.

Depends on your water usage but using twin di's at 270 ppm will cost a lot more in resin than running a ro I would have thought?

The bigger the ro ie Single or twin 4040 setup will produce pure a lot quicker so time that a tap water left running will be reduced considerably.

If you have guttering downspouts on your rented property then also maybe worth considering harvesting rainwater too. Simply collect it in water butts or ibc holding tanks then just filter it & run it through a twin di's straight into the van when needed.

Where is the best place for the 4040?

I like the idea of the rainwater harvest.

As this is all new to me i have no idea how much water i will use each day. my target is to have 200 houses. I know this is all a bit vague but as a guide......if i had 10 houses a day and they were an average 3 bed house what do you think i would use?

mate you ever thought about rain water harvesting??? this is what i do, i do have ro unit etc in my bathroom under the sink but only really use it when my rain water runs dry. my rain water comes out from 001-008 and i never had issues with spotting or anything on the glass.

JDMW.......smurf had just said about that as well. I had never though about that!! I suppose i could just run it through a di to just make sure its fine.

dont need a di with rain water. all the nonsense about needing 000ppm is ****. ive cleaned at 020 and had no spots or runs. i think 000 is for people who worry to much. ive used just ro water for months and never had complaints and no spotting. i test my water now and then on my own glass and on my greenhouse :lol: you missed the best water you could of gotten when we had that snow. i was getting 001 from the snow in my water tank. if we dont get any rain tho in the next few days im gunna have to resort to using my ro unit and booster pump which i hate doing.

i have 2 blue barrels connected to my greenhouse which collects water when it rains and i have guttering on my shed roof with a fishtank foam filter in to filter out mess etc. then once its gone down through that lot theres some j clothes that are very fine to collect sediment etc and the water in the tank is clear. at the min its 004ppm but i find when you get rain it rises because of dust and **** in the air its 009. once its been raining for a while it drops to 002-004

i hardly use much to be honest because its on my mind im going to run outta water. i get through about 9-12L of water per house because i use tiny hose on my brush to normal hose. yes it may take a few mins longer rinsing but im saving water. in a week ill prob use 250L but in summer its more which is when i go to ro water.

Thing is when you get into harvesting rainwater like last year being the wettest in 100 years you will soon run out of storage even if you're using 1000 itr a day. /emoticons/biggrin.png

The more storage you have the better it is which saves wasting nearly pure water going down the drain /emoticons/wink.png

i actually had floods in my shed from to much water. i never realised how much rain we had in one night. i have to change the filters after every downpour aswell because they go green just after one shower. but i get my j cloths from poundland. about 40 for a quid so i just double them up. bigger the roof the better. my shed has perspex roof aswell so its clean unlike felt. i have about 150L in my tank at the min and i know i gotta use 100L tomorrow. so we need rain this week. only time you see a window cleaner prey for rain lol

Indeed jdmw, think you need extra tanks then also work out a way to run on overflow out of the shed to stop it flooding.

I wondered why how low the ppm you use and now I know.

If ppl collect rain water from a tiled roof also depending what **** is in the gutters I've found can go as high as 45 ppm unfiltered. But for me is still better than my tap water which is on average 350 ppm /emoticons/smile.png

i just checked and im soooo outta rain water now i just filled up 2 barrels. means i gotta wait for the ice to melt in my water tubs to transfer over to my tank in the shed. that tank is from my old van, it has a place to fit a pump and battery aswell but i use it for rain water. i live in a flat so carrying water barrels up and down stairs isnt great.

using two di's may seem expensive but if u add an extra quid for every job then ull make up for it /emoticons/smile.png

i spend 80 quid for every 1500 kwid i make /emoticons/smile.png so its not bad
