I've got a hot water system from GrippaTank on one of the vans. Initially I believed we had a battery issue which I posted about. The vehicle is mains charged regularly, almost daily. I've changed the batteries for Exide ER550 ones and the problem reoccured the first day it was used as a 2 man system. On both sets of batteries I've added some copper grease which seemed to help. Looking at the wiring there are countless connections coming into one battery. Some of the crimps on the charging cables look slightly loose but they would need some heavy duty crimps to seal them.

On top of this the frost stat has started turning itself on. For a few mornings in a row I've gone out to find it running on FST.

Can anyone recommend somewhere I can take the van that will know what they're looking at. I have been unsuccessful at sourcing support from Grippa.

The crimps don't seem up to it. I had to redo a few of them with connector block. Oliver had to come up to me to wire my boiler correctly after it was done. If frost stat is turning on then I would fit a new one, fairly easy as I dropped a red hot nut on mine and burned the fibre cable. My boiler still turns off when my tank reaches a hot temperature so I think I need a new temperature sensor or adjusted. But I did warn you not to fall out with Grippa but I guess you know that now. Good luck finding someone. I serviced my van myself and looking at buying a new Webasto heater (£1500 or two services) and swapping it over so I can service the spare one myself.

When we were selling Grippa Tank systems every hot water system we sold was turning on radomly.

This was a discussion between us and Spring who were great and flew over to the resolve the problem.

I would talk to Ian at Spring to resolve this as there was an issue which they know about. It was not a Controller issue.

Last time I got really annoyed with your response so you know my opinion of your view. However I am going to choose to believe you genuinely want to help. You are not understanding the issue though mate. I have tried to resolve this with Grippa the entire time so I don't know that now, you just haven't understood the situation. I am limited as to what I can say, what I can tell you is that if you take people to court and agree something with the mediation service you are legally not allowed to discuss the outcome and anything that is agreed.

I feel quite sorry for you. You're looking at the situation from a different and much more positive perspective. You have spent a lot of money and still have things you're unhappy with. You have had support and still had to fix and or change things yourself. It would be interesting to see how much support you would have received had you not continued to spend money with them. My support was requested at a time I had paid in full and I was I wasn't ordering anything new.

Looking at the mess that is in my battery box I think a junction is the solution. That's a solid idea.

Any decent auto electrician should be able to sort it out it’s not a complex set up
I've had a mare finding someone to fit a radio to one of my vans mate. It's booked in for this Wednesday for that with a very expensive company. I'll ask them while I'm there because honestly, every other one in the area is a massive let down. They fitted some reversing sensors the other week and did a decent job.
Maybe somewhere that repairs canal boats as some of them use webasto heaters.
It's the mix of pump, controller and heater that throws the Webasto guys. I've got it in for a service with a Webasto specialist locally but if it turns out to be a frost stat issue he won't have a clue unfortunately.

I had to find a Webasto specialist as I wanted to have it serviced and maintain my warranty. It's also been fitted with the exhaust pointing towards the roller guides, subsequently filling the van with poisonous fumes when the system kicks out. I'm awaiting a fix on that, the fella that's doing the service has given me a price which I will charge back to Grippa if they can't sort anything themselves.

Thanks Doug, that's really helpful. I'm going to email them and ask now!

I understand there's nothing worse than paying for something that doesn't work. My experience was probably the same but I just had to bear with it and them because I knew nothing of the system setup. I knew getting angry was not the answer so I had to grind it out. My frost stat was working great till I burnt the cable so I bought a new one from Grippa and fitted it myself. Not many suppliers in this game so i don't want to fall out with any of them. My boiler still switches off after a few hours so I think its a temperature sensor, flame sensor or some other sensor but I can run with it. Good luck.

You can turn the frost stat off on your controller so it doesn't come on randomly.mine started playing up last year after 4 years with no problems.

Now I just put an oil filled radiator in the back on cold nights in winter
Sort of defeats the object of having the frost stat in the first place , not had any problems with mine yet , but it doesn’t cost much to fix it .

It does. That is however what I've needed to do.

Spoke to Ian Sheppard at spring. I'm going to check the temperature probe, it is the first port of call when it comes to the frost stat turning on and I'm assured its also a simple fix if this proves to be the issue.
