hi ian welcome mate I fairly new as well or should I say new to posting well done for new custys cant beat door knocking onward and upwards as they say lol

Great result Ian - just goes to show canvassing pays if you keep at it.

Does that source code make any sense to you?

<title>Pristine Pole - pure water exterior cleaning</title> = google searches for and displays relevant site/page title (top line) on the search result for a website/page. Say if someone types in a search for "window cleaners in poole" then your site/page title is not that relevant so will not show up.

<meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=UTF-8" /> = google will scan your site/page for relevant key words also at the same time in a paragraphs to display the page description (second line) on the search results for your site/page so again "window cleaners in poole" will not find anything that relevant in your page content to display.

Each page tile & description should be relevant to what ppl are looking for then google will rank the site by displaying it in the order they think it should be seen. That's basically how a search engine works but there is alot more to good search engine optimisation.

Nice one Smurf - Having a good look at wordpress tonight so watch this space .... Also good news onboarded 9 customers in th last 24 hours after 4 hours canvassing - RESULT - October is definitely going to be Big Push month!

The downside with using website builders most are very restrictive for seo as @Njones has already mentioned in other posts unlike wordpress.

Now this is a waste of a good domain name if you ask me due to how the site was built & search engine optimised as could be at the top of the page instead at the bottom of the first page when doing a search for "window cleaners in poole"

My goodness that site is awful!

The domain name is probably the only reason they're anywhere in the Google rankings!

Google looks at EVERYTHING - but is very fluid about what it thinks is important. For example, Google is not getting very good at differentiating between structure and content recently - meaning that keywords in headers & footers are often ignored and more emphasis than before seems to have been put on the main content as well as h1 & h2 tags as well as image tags,..

Well After spedning some hours it looks like i've got to paty some more money to 123-reg, it appears that on the basic package that ive bought i cannot install wordpress and have no database to set up in /emoticons/sad.png Bummer - I'll now wait for my own "expert" next week, it appears currently that i cannot even updgrade it which is really bizzare and guess what there is no phone support at weekends....Doh

Hello Ian Fisher - Welcome to the forum, I have joined recently and have to thank so many people on her for there time in replying to my posts for information. It has been an inspiration joining here and for me its kept me going on my mission to becoem a window cleaner. I too like you left the world of banking and I stuck in it for 7 years and in the end it just got too much, I was depressed and usually I am happy person and the office crushed me as a person, then I wa involved in a major accident and it changed my life, I been off work for a year and suffered PTSD and still not over it and I have battled through to now want to work again and want to do somthing for myself and look back at accident and use it as a positive now and also getting out the office enviroment is great, awful people in the main and no loyalty, just zombie miserable people. You come on here and everyone is happy and helpful its a different world and my family friends all tried to put me off, I have been nervous starting but I have now started and am waiting my flyer delivery and am going door knocking shortly, so I no where you have come from.

I hope you do well and my advice is just listen to these guys on here, Tolish, cheapandcheerful, daveyboy1, boarcity, smurf etc etc they are just armed with info and always make a great reply with tips etc. I am so bloody nervous now as I am in it and if it does not work I am fooked and also look a fool, but I am hitting it hard and in a good manner and I am 100% determined to walk the streets flyering and door knocking and online as long as I can stay awake.

Good luck Ian. All the best!

Hey Scottie sorry that its taken me so long to respond - ive been offline working and fiddling with my website. Great Message - your summary is one that totally resonates with me in every way ! There is not a day that goes past where i regret turning my back on corporate life. Got me Seal Skinz Socks & Gloves and trying to stay in shorts for as long as possible is one of my current objectives. Your right about teh site as well a haven of knowledge and banter - ideal for newbies like us - my primary motto is "everyone has windows" just remember that and you will stay motivated and the work will come - I've gone for a heavily corporate look (in the Style of a window cleaner) which with the brand that i've developed is really having a good customer impact which means that i believe that i win more customers as a result- Anyway Good Stuff Fella - c u around Ian
