50 metres of 1 inch transfer hose needs winter-proofing.....

....and I have no idea how!

I cant park anywhere near to my IBC so need to push the water each night through 50 metres of 1 inch hose to the van. Piece of cake in Summer as the hose can just be left in the garden. However with winter round the corner I have no idea how to protect this much heavy hose each night.  I have nowhere to store it inside and as it is connected to the submersible pump in the garden it has to be stored outside. So what kind of cold proofing solutions are there?

Cheers

If you can, drain the water in it back into the ibc tank. For us we uncouple the hose at the garage door (we have a join coupling there) and walk down the hose raising it above our heads. As the hose is higher than the van's tank the water in the hose drains into the vans tank. An empty hose is easier to coil up and put away.

There will be a small amount of water left over in the hose. If it freezes it should be to much of a problem and block the hose.

Don’t know if it’s the best place but I used this link on the recommendation of someone on here...

See I bought 50 meter's of proper three layer hose. Weighs a ton, especially dragging it down communal alleys and such! I looked at that corrugated hose and I just didn't think it would hold up at that length on gravel and whatnot. So is there anything else I can do to protect from ice and cold apart from draining the hose each night?

Yeah I'm only buying inch hose as my corrugated stuff is leaking !

Mine was about £75 I think.  Its the Cellfast plus *** one. Good and strong but heavy and does kink. Its a real pain in the rear to store that much hose but have no choice.

Go to http://amazon.co.uk and search for flexible pond hose sold by First4spares or Spares2go this stuff is like the waste hose on a washing machine different diametre's and lengths they also sell barbed hose joiners I just tape mine up once joined with cheap electrical tape, Had mine well over year and no splits and very lightweight.

The hose from machine mart is much sturdier than it looks.  Much sturdier than the black garden pond stuff which I was using till I discovered this stuff.  Every few months I had to replace it as it kept splitting. Buy a short piece and see what you think.
