I'm on my 4th battery in 3 years since I went WFP, and this one's playing me up again!!

Surely not a 5th one to buy?!!

    I bought a 110 Numax in July - just 2 months ago!
I don't work full-Time, so I charge it with a CTEK charger over night every Sunday ready for the week.
I also have a split Charge Relay whilst driving about, and when I stop, I plug in my solar panel trickle charger, so there's always charge.

Was playing me up Mon after full charge Sunday night. Recharged over Tues night, and still buggered on first job this morning with the Digital Controller reading 11.6.

    Something ain't right, right???....

It does sound odd. spruce is the expert in this field. I don't know, but are you charging the battery too quickly? On my charger I have a quick charge and normal charge rate. I always charge it on the slower rate.

We swear by Numax. The 110 amp on my van lasted 4 years. My son in laws 85 amp Numax is 4 years old in October and is still going fine. My SIL isn't the most fastidious about boost charging his battery, letting the split charge relay do most of the recharging. On several occasions he has had to stop early as his battery was flat. So if his has lasted through his neglect, then it must be good. My son's battery, also an 85 amp Numax is over 4 years old, and up until 2 months ago was still working fine. The van is off the road ATM as he wrecked the engine.

However Numax told me that they don't warranty batteries used for window cleaners as they are abused. Not sure how Grippatank deal with warranties as they supply Numax to window cleaners.

I replaced my Numax with an Oldham Leisure battery. I always buy this sort of thing from our motor factors as he would deal with the supplier if there was a warranty issue. Our motor factor outlet couldn't get a deal with Numax, hence the Oldham. So far it done 7 months no issues.

My first suggestion is to check that the battery charger you are using is working properly. Also look for bad wiring connectors, especially at the fuse. Use proper battery terminals, not those crocodile clamps.

When you say the digital controller was reading 11.6v what was happening at that voltage that was causing you concern? The digital controller will only cut off at 10.3 or 10.4 volts.

  7. Is it a sealed battery? Can you open it up and get it fizzing? Fizzing is good.

My first port of call would be to check ALL electrical connections.

sounds silly but is the spilt relay in right ??? as if it is all hooked up the van could be pulling power from leisure battery first

take the battery off and connect to the controller without the split and see what happens i think this might be done to bad electrics
