I been helping a friend and fellow forum member @Jamie nott build his van system. Problem is that both the hozelock connections on the di keep blowing. Setup goes tank-pump-di-reel. Then runs through 100m of 8mm hose and 20m pole hose. We have tried a few things to rectify this and fault find

Checked for kinks

Tried running with reel disconnected, runs fine

Runs fine through 12mm garden hose reel.

Changed connectors same thing happens

It's doing our head in, any help would be great, we been at it all afternoon!

It's a shurflo pump, varistream controller that needs calibrating, but connection blows before we get that far. 12mm hose between everything

When you say blowing I asume you mean popping off under pressure. If this is the case, I have found that not all hozelock type connectors are compatible. Some don't lock as securely as others. You may just have to keep trying different ones until you find one that works and stick to that brand.

It is also possible that the ones you have used are both damaged. Bit of a coinsidence I know but check the little teeth inside the female connectors as if even one of these is broken off they won't stay on under pressure if at all.

I thought it might be the male parts on the di as we tried 3 different makes of connector? Any idea what size the thread it on the inlet and outlet? May look at a replacement perhaps JG fittings?

You could be right re the male parts if you have tried three different makes of female connectors. It doesn't take much if the tollerance between them is off. I've come across some that I couldn't even push together. JGs might be the way to go. I've never used the larger ones but I use the 1/4" on my RO and 8mm ones on my pole hose and have very few problems

Sorted the popping off problem, used the hozlock connections that came with di. Now the threads are leaking, gonna try tightening them to make sure they're tight, I it doesn't work bung ptfe tape in the threads. Fingers crossed it all works, next is calibrating controller and confirm TDs is still 0

Just in case they pop off again, I swapped my plastic fittings for brass. Probs solved

And if you're in a pinch and just need the thing to work; a glass of boiling water will soften a regular garden hose up enough to manhandle it directly over a hozelock male fitting, and then you can secure it with a hose clamp.

Change to John Guest fittings. You can get a straight connector and barb to change to hose just before the hose reel. I don't have a DI on the van anymore but i've seen some Daqua set ups that have JG fittings to the DI. Pic below that Doug shared to FB...

Update...

Leaks fixed and connectors now staying on. Have suggested JG fittings, but all working for now. Good practice for when I finally get a van and build my system. Thank you all for your input, it was all a big help.
