failing in canvesing and leaflets help

WCF

Help Support WCF:

I do agree I kinda took it for granted my old boss kept me in work for years never spent a day canvassing I did do the odd leaflett drop tho will just keep at it always gets worse b4 it gets better I will get there in the end

my missis works 4 days a week I canvass every evening and weekend if I'm not out door knocking I'm looking after my kids its goto be that way for now
while lookin after your kids you can be posting your blurb of Facebook . an hour spent posting tittle tattle about your job in the buy n sell groups on FB should bring in a job or 3 every time

You should try Chigwell and loughton as its not far from you, Bit of money in them areas. I used to do mobile car valeting around there a few years back and they have money to spend.

Have been woodford green area last week 15 min from me near chigwel got a few calls just seems my local area is going to be hit and miss

Hi mate.

It can be the area that's just not working for you.

For example I had a village canvassed recently the canvassers spent a week in it and only got 300 of work they then moved to the next village and pulled 300 in a day.

You may have to go further afield. What I would do is get in the car and spend a day driving round looking for dirty windows.

Houses that are out of the way or on the main road are good bets as most windys will target the easy to access stuff. Think about it where are you drawn to ? Probably posh areas and new builds that's where I find most windys are.

Terraced houses can be a good target, I often find dirty ones amongst them and if you can get a few on a row they can be very good money.

love it better than skeggie or Blackpool may head up there did a lot of work in Westcliffe and over that way /emoticons/smile.png
20 years ago I used to live in Westcliffe. Go drinking at Tots on a Saturday night. Chew my arm off on a Sunday morning and hope it would grow back by Monday. /emoticons/sad.png

As mentioned Facebook is essential, or it was for me starting from scratch anyway.

It'll help not only get new customers but quickly allows you to suss out areas that have gaps, ie advertising in different towns Facebay/buy and sell pages you can then record what ones are giving you the most feedback.. That's where to focus in on.

Asking fb customers if there's a window cleaner in area,if not again.. it's worth chapping their areas..these are just a couple of wee things I'm finding help me in these early days.

90% of my work is a 30min + drive away. The local stuff is may be 2 days a month at best. Happens that way sometimes but you've gotta go where the money is. May be broaden your radius. I go as far as 30miles away if it pays me well enough.
I go as far as 4 miles from my house haha

neither I live in barking Essex near Ilford but may as well be Birmingham I no Leicester very well my daughter was born there its a predominantly Muslim area may have to head back into Thurrock or hit the city if its city its all commercial I guess that traveling the only way
When i was doing the odd days driving work i saw a couple of different window cleaning firms round barkingside and towards Woodford Green and they were all indian

They tend to stick with their own

I know cheshunt is short of windies as i have a few mates there who keep asking me to go there as they can't find anyone decent and never see a windie

Maybe try cheshunt, goffs oak and harlow etc..basically anywhere between harlow and the m25 roundabout on the a10

I would anyway

spent many a night out there n woke up next to summit not to pretty and beer googles worn off. Facebook is ok I just find its full of people bitching about all sorts and want things done for nothing and done yesterday. I don't no cheshunt but will google it and head up there. and do u mean gospel oak? I will travel up there tomorrow got a call from a chap in Chigwell yesterday he lives in a block of flats its committee run and thay want a quote I'm heading there in the morning so will have the day out I think and have a pop at a few different places nxt week in the evenings and chris I have been reading ur blog must be the Scottish charm my family all from inverness I can never understand a word there on about mind u but

were I am is mostly terraced houses and 90% of the windows are minging just when thay answer the door thay iver don't understand or say thay got I even tho you cant even see the nets thru the grubby things

Thing is its been said a million times but it's purely a numbers game. It can be very demoralising and I've struggled with it a lot.

I think the best way to do it over time is write everything down that way you can keep canvassing those that don't answer to compact it.

i must say it has been a bit of a kick in the arse to get out further so will be doing that there is millions of doors for me to bash just goto keep bashing them

Fired out 700 plus fliers today, not one call (yet) sent out 50 last week and two jobs..hit and miss, keep your chin up mate

I found that flyers did not work great maybe 1 costomer per 100 flyers I just drive round look for dirty windows and knock door I find I tend to get a lot more that way and not as disheartening

if youre after terraced houses /council house work [my main market] youv got to look cheap in your flyers. sound flash and u will get nowhere fast. itll also be well worth your while to find and go into local community cafes/dives, eat there ,and often, tell them in there youre cleaning windows today get friendly with the bunch who hangabout in them is the key to the door . once ur known as The local windie theyll let you put up a small poster on the noticeboard . this all takes time but sooner you start the better. the typical type of cafe dweller/loudmouth also usually posts on facebook ALL day long-tittle tatt mostly BUT theyll sing your praises like a hot canary!

I will do and were I am is mostly terraced houses and a lot of the 1s I do do are front only charge them 8 to ten pound depending if its double bays can bash them out quick my first few weeks canvasing went well I picked up enough for a weeks work a month I no its not much but its a start I got the job in Woodford green the flats theirs 7 of them I think I was just having a hard time of it bounce back up am going back out in a min to post some more was comeing home for lunch might just nip to the café instead

What about the obvious stuff:

  • How are you dressing when Canvassing?
  • Are you clean shaven? Smart shoes? Trousers and Shirt? Smart folder under your arm? Good eye contact? Not fast speech?
  • What are you saying?

I find that stuff has the biggest effect. Not area. People buy you for the most part, not your company.

And if there is a "foreign community" -Go clean their local church/mosque for free, they'll soon be asking to have their houses done and pay well for it.

Free cleans are a joke, at the start i tried that and didn't get a single response from fliers that stated that. Better fliers with a better service got me work, don't give anything away for free in my opinion.. Stuff that. We are here to work, ain't getting any respect for doing 'a good turn'
