A friend in the motor trade said he was on a course to do with mot's and was told the a new mot may well come into effect covering modifications?

It manly covers the boy racers that muck around with the engines and alter the exhaust emissions. Having said that it will cover all modifications...….systems that are bolted to the chassis rails are classified as modifications

If you have a professionally fitted system, Ionics, Gripper tank, x line, I would think your ok, don't know about home set ups?

I don't know anything about this but much of what is a pass and what is a fail is down to the MOT inspectors discretion.

The MOT inspector I have used for my cars for the past 20 years (same guy) will fail a van if any hole was drilled in the chassis to secure any equipment inside.

My tank in my last van was secured through the floor with spreader plates. He had no issue with that. He also had no issue if I welded a bracket onto my Witter towbar, but if I drilled a hole in it to mount the bracket with a bolt and nut, then he would fail the van at MOT.

Last year I had to use the garage my son always used because my replacement van is over 3000kgs. That inspector had no issue with the tank secured through the chassis.

The EU is totally against vehicle modification, engine tuning, lowering suspension etc. and want to totally ban it. As for us, the latest MOT covering exhaust emissions has been in for a couple of years now. A year before the new regulations the BMW belonging to our neighbours son had the dpf removed and his ecu reprogrammed.

He just takes the car back to the garage that did the job, which is also an MOT test station, and it passes emissions tests. How? I don't know. I can guess.

How would they view a vehicle that has had the floor totally modified at the back to accommodate a ramp for wheel chair user access through the rear tailgate; ie Renault Trafic/Vauxhall Vivaro. Done professionally yes, but its still a modification. The underneath of that van is totally different to how it came off the production line.
