How long do poles last!!!!!

WCF

I just replaces the 3rd section on my gardiner slx 27 & in May next year it will be 9 years old. Made me think u might aswell keep em going forever as u can keep replacing sections. Anyone else do the same?
I cut off the worn part and glue on a new clamp so much cheaper doing it that way.

A 30 ft Gardiner slx will set you back around £370 but will last years . I’ve got an slx that gets used everyday for the last 5 years . Your neck, arms and shoulders will thank you for it if you choose it over a cheap fibre glass pole . Plus it’s a false economy over the long run

Tape it the first time then after that skim damaged bit with epoxy glue.

Lucky to see two years out of a himod pole. I'm using what's left of a two year old Xtreme.. It's battered, snapped multiple times....It's creaking every time I use, if I get one last week out of it next week I will be happy.

SLX will last a lot longer but it slows you down as it's not that light and it's not that rigid.

You work longer and harder with himod.

Probably the best pole for longevity is Gardeners Super Max 27...

I'd never buy another Xtreme again the number of breakages I had was ridiculous considering the cost is quite a bit higher, a 22ft SLX weighs 1270g, and a 22ft Xtreme weighs 990g there ain't much difference in the weight or the rigidity I don't think,

I'd buy another 22ft SLX in a heartbeat also the cost is £314.34 with VAT and delivery the Xtreme is now £680.34  I couldn't believe the bleedin price, I could buy two SLX's and some spares for the same money as an Xtreme which, Gardiners now state on their website with heavy domestic use the pole might last 10-12 months

I think if the majority of your work is doable with a pole upto 25' an SLX should be fine. Where the Xtreme poles, and the brushes, are a God send is on jobs where you are working on that need bigger poles.
Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday we have approximately 16 hours of work where you need a fully extended 35' pole. Wouldn't like to be doing this with anything but an Xtreme brush and pole.

I would say mine get very heavy use and find they last 3-4 years generally replace section one after 18months to two years and section two every 3 years after 4 years plus’s feel the pole is starting to feel loose bit more bendy etc so then replace them , when I consider the amount of money that pole has earned me £700 for a new one is a very cheap price to pay . If you are clumsy then yes they won’t last as long .

Yes, 95% or so of my work is doable with a 22ft pole and the rest it's either a 27ft or 30ft pole I chop and change sections over the years I have no idea what length my larger pole is, I dropped all my awkward jobs earlier this year doing velux windows with a 45ft-ish pole was doing my shoulders in and had me fatigued on certain days and I'm not getting any younger,

I can fully appreciate why you would opt for an Xtreme given the large amount of commercial jobs you do.

That's very good going I never got that much out of mine, I used to maintain my poles I now can't be chewed and haven't been for years I still have some Xtreme sections in my garage some are used some are brand new although my current niggle is the diameter has changed so they aren't as interchangeable as they once were with different sections slx, xtreme and super max,

Yes, the poles earn us a great deal of money for their cost, but I just can't justify the current price tag at all £680 for a pole that has sections that snap for fun isn't a justifiable price tag for me, the lower price of an SLX will earn me far more money than an Xtreme because it will always outlast an Xtreme,

If I am not thinking one day and rest my pole against a house extended when a customer comes out to pay freak gust of wind pole goes over xtreme section snaps in two, this doesn't happen with an slx section.

I don’t have the time to maintain poles it very rarely gets done probably only when a section brakes so 2-3 times maximum in the life of the pole , I do blast up inside with a hose if it get sand or grit inside but that’s it

Tatts, dont worry about carbon poles being too delicate, if you look after them like smurf says they last ages.

Has your pole at the mo got lateral clamps or vertical? Only asking to be nosey and what you prefer

Best maintenance is strip and clean a couple of times a month especially in winter, its that gritty feel i hate

And clear coat or lacquer them a few times a year, sounds like a pain but i can strip and clean mine in minutes, then if clear coat is needed then add another 10 mins and leave to dry over night and reassemble in the morning before work
Hi again. Was wondering what is the best laqueur to use for a hybrid pole? Thanks

I’ve been getting 5 years+ out of my slx’s if used daily and even then it will be just one section that goes and I’ll replace with a spare if I have one. I also use a bit of tape around the part just under the clamp to stop too much uneven wear but usually they go at the other end and if that happens I’ll just cut the section down only losing a few inches.
