Hozelock connectors?

I use ck brass hozelock connectors, but finding that the male connector on the reel is wearing out fairly quickly, they are£4.50 a pop, was wandering what you lot are using and how you find they last

Ah, its not the 'o' ring thats wearing. Its the shoulder that the bearings in the female connector run on thats wearing, its from unwinding and winding the reel i presume. I think that when the system is pressurised that the bearings just chew the brass shoulder up, i might try a tiny bit of food grade grease, but would like a connector made of something harder than brass

Crazy as this may sound I've actually found the plastic ones last longer than the brass ones. And I don't use Hozelock either. I use the black and orange brand whatever it is that you find on most WFP retailer's websites. Plastic ones don't have bearings so maybe this solves the problem? They do start to leak eventually but as Tuffers has pointed out a new seal normally fixes that. In fact seals have saved me masses in purchasing connectors.

Don't know if anyone else has a better solution / product.

I have changed to all brass hozelock, at first I got leaks but changed to o ring and I don't have any leaks, you can buy a load in eBay

Sorted......use either brass or nickel plated brass, but put a smear of grease on the surface which the ball bearings come into contact with

What a difference, no longer does the hose from the di get twisted and all out of shape, just smoothly unreels and no longer chews the connector up. Just have to be careful not to get grease where water might push it up the pole onto the glass, but it is only a smear that i am using
