how safe are extension cables in severe weather? im running one from my garage to my van to connect to my tube heater, there is some exposed cable to rain snow etc.

cheap as chips that mate mine just a bog standard indoor one will it make any difference?most are ok and wouldnt be a problem with our weater here.
