Can I just add that Ionic Systems aren't the only supplier of this type of hot water system and all these type of systems are priced the same. What you get extra is more local support with regional fittings centres and local distrubutors, which makes a huge difference when the unforseen happens, thus elimanating lost working hours.

So being in business (as we all are) to make a profit is wrong?? Manufacturing systems in the UK, providing British jobs, using British suppliers, selling worldwide, setting up an Academy to assist our industry (so we all can earn more money), providing detailed catalogues, websites, demonstration vehicles, network of distributors, fitting centres and innovating new systems, poles and accessories................... need I go on, no.

Everything has its price and if its not for you then we are sorry. Who else in our industry does all of the above??

I thought I was joining a forum that was different to CleanItUp and could provide same assistance were applicable, but if its just another "slate Ionic" site, then I'll leave you guys to it.

I too ran my own business and sympathise how hard it is but that's the point it's business and we all want to earn to pay the mortgage and I take no shame from aspiring and supporting the thousands of customers we help every week.

Rant over!! It's been a hard week but well worth it.

well... a quick search on t'internet and it looks like the 9kw webasto heater itself aint cheap, it's about £1700. As well as that you'll probably need a seperate leisure battery to power it (about £100) plus you'd need a header tank for the coolant, fuses + electricals + switches etc to control it, heat exchanger to transfer the heat, and then you'd need to fit it, which involves plumbing it into the vehicles fuel system. Plus you'd need to know how to do all of that (or pay someone who does)

Bearing all that in mind, and the £3k price tag, which includes fitting I think, doesnt actually look too bad.

I don't think its really the same to compare gas heaters to these webasto jobbies, those gas heaters (which imho are probably illegal in a vehicle) seem like a right faff to use. With diesel heaters you just switch em on and BAM you got hot water, no messin with gas bottles and such.

Personally I would prefer a system thats got hot water built-in (rather than as an add-on) but if you just want to convert your cold system then imho webasto diesel is the way to go. I've seen one in use and they are quaity units.

Once again, I'll stick with my Aquarium 300w heater (which is fully submersible) at £9.99 and £100 for a leisure battery, now that's Asda price and does the trick!

Well spotted Mark lol, I personally don't know anything about ionics so don't take anything I say as dissing the company I simply thought it was a lot of money for a water heater.
As Mark says, a lot of members here are beginners and to us thats a whole heap of money.

I started four years ago and the first thing I did was to investigate WFP systems. I found Ionics to be the best there was and the only company who had crash tested their systems.

I had my system fitted into a van I bought, spent two days at the BWCA (included in the price) and set off on my business.

I was paying £300 per month on a lease purchase agreement and obvious had to pay for my consumables myself.

It may seem expensive but all I had to concentrate on was getting business and had a professional set up to impress sceptical customers.

I know it can be done at home much cheaper but Ionics are at the forefront of WFP development and are rightly considered the best. I will certainly go back to them for my next system got that reason and for the fact that their customer service is also the best I've found.

The bottom line is, its personal preference. I had the ionic poles, but sick of the clamps busting, and did not like the finish on the poles, so I switched to Gardiner... a good pole, but once again, clamps could do with a bit of improvement.

Ionic_Systems_BDM, whoever you might be, I think that it would have been nice if you had put your name at the bottom of your post so that we could know who we are really dealing with. I feel that you were being a bit over sensitive at the end of your hard week, I fear you will need to develop a thicker skin if you are going to hang around the forums. Rather than grumbling about the knockers you would be better served by finding out what it is about the Ionic approach that so many people find unpalatable and doing something to fix it.

I don't think I could really be interpreted as knocking Ionics on the basis of what I wrote, In fact in another post the same evening I recommended someone use Ionics pole hose which I regard as very good. However I do think that the Hotbox is expensive, at the end of the day it is a box with a smallish number of pretty low tech components which costs £3000 or so, for just £4500 you can but a brand new car which consists of many thousands of components, some of them of a rather higher tech level. The numbers just don't add up. I would have thought that a company with the resourses of Ionics could bring to the marketplace a more affordable product which could be a genuine benefit to probably tens of thousands of window cleaners in just the UK, let alone the wider European marketplace, who according to the long range forecasts are probably facing another very cold winter.

It would be very nice if you were to hang around and contribute the occasional post that was genuinely friendly, helpful and beneficial to the members, after all you guys do have a good deal of knowledge and experience that you could share for the benefit of the community. But try as I might I cannot recollect ever reading a post from Ionic that fulfills those criteria.
