I'm no expert, but I bought one of these http://www.amazon.co.uk/Draper-52320-Digital-Multimeter/dp/B0001K9UZA/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1423665274&sr=8-2&keywords=multimeter. It gives me the info I need without guessing.
