One of my lads paid Halfords to fit headlights last night. I argued that we could just do it but he insists his car (astra) is a PITA to change bulbs on.You have to get the right battery for your van and I would always go for a known brand. If the battery is dead, then you won't have much choice to either order online and wait, or go down the road to Halfords.
I ordered mine online and took the old battery down to the recycling centre in Marske and got £6 for it. If you get Halfords to fit it for you, it will cost you an arm and a leg and they will want you to leave the old battery behind so they can claim scrap value.
If it costs £6 to fit a single windscreen wiper blade (20 seconds) and £8 to fit a pair, I would hate to know how much they will charge to fit a battery.
Always my go to. You can usually find a code online to get a few quid off too.Euro car parts might have one for your van - they do various different makes.
My lad had to replace his headlight bulbs on his Citroen Xzara as one blew. The right hand headlight is a bit of a fiddle to change, but to change the left hand side is a challenge. You need to unplug the ABS actuator wiring harness, but even this gives you hardly any room to get your fingers in. You can't see what you are doing at all. It's all done by feel. One of my lads paid Halfords to fit headlights last night. I argued that we could just do it but he insists his car (astra) is a PITA to change bulbs on.
I guess people go for it because it's one fixed fee. I remember getting one done on my Corsa years ago. It was about £10-15. The lights were held in with these horrid clips and it was before the time of YouTube so I couldn't work it out that way. When I got there the lad didn't know any more than I did. They spent about 45 mins working it out. I left them to it, was freezing cold that day anyway so I didn't want to take over. After that though I've either gone to our garage or done them myself. My lad had to replace his headlight bulbs on his Citroen Xzara as one blew. Anyway they didn't seat the bulb correctly. He drove the car like that until next mot when it failed. The mot inspector wouldn't sort it, which meant I had to do it and then rebook the car back in for a retest.
Halfords charged more for fitting the bulbs than the bulbs cost.
The joke was that he already had an old bulb in the glovebox which he could have fitted in place of the blown one. It was my car before he took it on, and it was me who left the old bulb in the glovebox when I had previously changed the bulbs myself.
I wonder what Halfords would do if I asked them to replace bulbs on my Peugeot Boxer van. You have to take the headlights out to replace the bulbs.

You could buy a jump pack I give it a charge about once every 2 months just to keep it ready. Not sure I would want to try and use one for a full days work but might make it easier to get home if it fails or to somewhere to get a new battery.I put it on an overnight charge. Its got enough life left . Its been standing idle for a week. While i was sunning in Benidorm. Halfords charge £25 to refit a battery. it would bave been around £113 in total with a Code.
Kwik Fit when you put in to buy a battery and fit no slots till next week .
Been out today no problems . Just a panic attack. Ready to go out yesterday non starter. No work. Catch up time now
