Payment systems? Advice

Same with Halifax too.

I used to refuse cheques under £100 but I take them all day long now. You can even pay them in at 4pm and they're cleared next morning!
Same with Yorkshire bank App.

Cheques are easy to deposit now and you get your money in 1-2 days at most

I considered getting a card reader but felt it was a bit of a backwards step as my goal is to phase out collecting completely. The card reader requires them to be at home still. I'm pushing Gocardless as there doesn't seem to be any better way of getting your money.

On the app I swipe right to mark a job as done after I've finished cleaning it.

Done.

Around a week or so later the money ends up in my account. I don't think it can get easier than that.

Gone from more or less, receiving payment in the Queen's currency can't be done, to won't be be possible soon, in some of the comments.

I won't be submitting to handing my payment running to any third party company unless and until I have absolutely no choice.

Each to their own.

Peace, harmony and prosperity, to us all. ??
you must have a small round full of pensioners then.......?

you must have a small round full of pensioners then.......?
Around 600 customers if that's a small round, and yes a lot are pensioners (about 70 percent I'd say), and sure I'm nearly one meself. ?

However even the younger ones are told that's the way we work, as explained in an earlier post on this conversation. Most don't have a problem. If they do we're not the company for them and they're not the customers for us.

Time will show that people have been too quick to give up their freedoms.

What next? Do we get tagged and microchiped.?

....thats fine then youll be retiring soon and your customers will be dead...?.....your jobs are probably cheap too so cash will probably be fine for most of them if their £5-£10 a pop....

most people WILL not be willing to pay cash, not in the posh affluent areas i work thats for sure, most dont carry cash, its all card and online banking, you gotta move with the times.....

ive had customers moan at me because of their old "cash only" window cleaner.its much more convenient for them and me if they pay online or by card these days....

Clever how you think you know my prices. Your right though, £5 a pop... For a garage door! Thank you for pointing out how posh and affluent you are. I had'nt initially realised that from your post above.

Still!  I do now.

Class, for sure! ?

It's not about affluent work areas or not, it's more of a modern generation people are cash rich and time poor and having the convenience of using GC direct debit works best for a great deal of people I had two clients the other day say how great the direct debit is, one I have cleaned his windows for around a year and it was the first time I had met him,

A few years ago people were a bit scaremongering about GoCardless saying it might not last what if they hike there charges up you will all be screwed, to this day GC have gone from been just in the Uk to Europe then Australia and have just launched in America, I am surprised it took so long to launch in America as they have had over $30 million of investment, I have been using GC since April 2014 and in that time GC has saved my business £1,000's in business running costs and enabled be to stop evening cash collections were I would be spending on average 6 hours a week collecting and spending over a £100 a month on diesel.

At the end of day it's @Davy G business and he can run it the way he wants. If he can get enough customers, looks like he has, to pay him his preferred way, in his case cash, then no one on here should even contemplate trying to lecture him.

The fact that a lot of people seem to prefer DD or GC means diddly to him because he is happy with his system.

I agree, I was trying to bridge a gap between what @dazmond and also @Davy G were saying and merely pointing out the pluses and changing times with a younger modern generation, I'll always agree with you because you're bigger than me ? ?

I just hand out my personal bank details on a card for my customers to pay into, doesn't cost me a penny then i just transfer money into my business account. My business account doesn't have apps nor can anyone pay into it. I can use it on internet banking but hardly do this because i pay for anything with its debit card. Until the banks start charging for bank transfers i will continue using it.?

banks transfers are great.....no charges and the money is in your account mins later after a customers paid.....?....but its always handy to have other forms of payment too...i can take card payments over the phone, there and then chip and pin or contactless and obviously cash and cheque.....i also have a few customers on standing order.....

That’s funny we have more  multi million  pound houses that we do  than I can shake a stick at , some pay cash , some cheque, some bacs, but I have a lot that don’t want to pay online  , we have a mixture of age range customers  from early twenties through to 100 years old , no one payment method suites all if I did just online payment I would loose 50-60 % of my customer base , and no I don’t have a handful of customers ??

In my case, I would like to think 600 odd customers for two operators working from one van is a fair round. We're happy with it anyway.

Finding the idea of people getting older and dying amusing, as some seem to, is not funny to me. It's all about respect and compassion.

We have a mixture of ages and income ranges, and they vary from poor as church mice to extremely wealthy. The poorer and tougher someone has it the more I respect them, but I do it quietly.

Our latest customer's premises, recruited last week, is a large, former farmhouse: Swimming pool with lounge house. Gym house, bar house. Barn, stables, riding arena. Huge camper on the drive, Harley Davidson in the garage, and her car is a Bentley. No idea what her husband drives. We now do the house and all the outbuildings.

Slightly more than £5 or £10 at six weekly, for sure. Agreed to pay cash on the day and leave it one of my ziploc bags if shes not going to be home.

I would have walked away if she hadn't agreed to leave cheque or cash on the day." My rules, is my rules", as Al Murray says... I've just remembered, I was in Swanage, Dorset at the weekend and went for a browse in a shop selling antique nautical memorabilia (navigation lanterns and the likes). He had a sign saying, "Cash only". I guess his rules is his rules, too. ?

We all have our own methods and systems. Long live diversity and independent thinking. ?

Health and prosperity to all.

everyone loves cash......that is until you dont get it and then you are having to chase them for it.

I get very, very little cash, next to nothing really because ive slowly dropped them all over time due to constantly having to chase them

I dont give an option for it when taking on new work and if im asked cant i pay cash? i say yes if you are in but you must be willing and able to pay online if you are not. In most cases they have asked to pay cash because they cant or wont pay online so i dont take them on anyway.

It happens occasionally, but very easily dealt with as I said in an earlier post. .

I just use an Amazon wishlist i tell my customers to text me with what they have either bought or contribhted too and then i mark it off when its delivered.
