Playing tatical on commercial quotes...

WCF

Help Support WCF:

Well Trev with the initial impression you've probably given the prospective client ( your prompting him to let you know your rivals quotes, quite unethical on your/his part but very handy for him if he wants to play you for a mug ) you may well get it. If you do, make sure you get a contract drawn up for a set period. If you've worked your rate out then have confidence in it, DON'T give them an inkling you're desperate ( bit late on this occasion ) and stick to your guns. Good luck.
Not at all desperate @Jimbo I have just found on previous quotes I have done for big commercial work I have not been winning them, if that is down to the price then so be it, it tells me there are others out there working for less than what I require per hour, I can't speak for these weather or not they do a decent job like I do, it seems price is the deciding factor for most of the big commercial jobs in my area.. When this one came through I just thought I'd play it a different way initially to see if I could get anything from them as to what the other quotes were and from whom as he has already told me the firms that are booked to quote, the young manager seemed quite in-experinced so thought he might talk once the quotes come in, if the quotes are lower than what I am happy with then of course I would not be taking it on. However I have now chose to put in a quote after thinking it through last night and will await the reply, I gave 2 separate quotations one for the big initial clean and payment on completion, and a on-going 4 weekly window quotation on a standard 30 day invoice.

Pleased to hear you've chosen that avenue Trev.

May you tread the path of the righteous with your head held high ( an all that ).

With one eye on yer back all times of course.

i would think of what my rock bottom price would be,imagine im being haggled down and reluctantly agreeing ok i will do it for Xamount.

then double it, thats then about right

We do a few OAP flats and they are all 12 weeks, you could explain that

with your experience 4 weekly would be far too often and 10 or even 12 would

be the fine.

This would come across that you are honest, not after work and are even saving them money.

If it was a days work @ £200 on the regular clean, 12 cleans per annum (other quotes)

12 cleans @ £200 = £2400

You could up your rate to £300 for 4 Cleans

4 cleans @ £300 = £1200

It's half the price and a good sales pitch, you say ya too busy to clean clean windows

12 weeks is plenty.

They might even after a few cleans drop to fewer weeks too but keep the same day rate???

What ever happens after 3 or 4 cleans you will know the job and exactly the time it takes

and whether you want to carry on for less money.

He seemed certain on 4 weekly as thats what is done at their other site which is not near this one, it suits me 4 weekly at the moment as I need a few bulk jobs like that one to fill some gaps so was not going to try and change his mind, but yes they would be fine over a longer period as we all know.

Trev 4 week is perfect nice easy cleans and more cash for you

Don't walk away from it if you have slack days better to earn Sumat rather than nothing

Well I won the business today @Eviestevie , slight haggle on my initial clean up quote but not much and I was happy to move a bit as planned for it, I wasn't the cheapest but they liked how I presented myself and in their words "looked more professional" than the others, I think the lowest quote was a couple of lads in trackies and a rusty tranny! They had 5 quotes on the ongoing regular windows 4 weekly and weirdly all 5 of us had quoted within £20 of one another. So I must be getting better on pricing. Payment on completion for the initial clean up agreed too, then invoiced 30 days ongoing, so quite chuffed with that. Starting it next week.

Things going well for me at the moment, landed another big commercial too that I quoted a few weeks back, never thought I'd get it as they were looking into investing in their own pure water system for the maintenance team to use but have done some research and have scrapped the idea and given the exterior glass to me on 4 weekly /emoticons/smile.png) can't wait to do that one too as its a country health spa and when I went to walk round with the owner it was bikinis everywhere!! ::p:G-)

Good news I'm happy for you

Make sure take plenty before and afters mate you can use um for marketing or advertising later on

It's a very big job mate so all the best

I did say Trev as well a lot of the time it's how you come across like me I just be myself throw in some light hearted chit chat and point few little extras out and I win most of my quotes even if I'm dearer

Just went to a new shopping village in Manchester picked up all bar 2 shops. Gained£430 per week.

First time canvassing commercial. Went because my wife's phone was playing up and while she was shopping I got a few business cards out of the car and started.

The Costa Coffee tasted much better after the hour and half of shopping!!! my brownie points was well earned today

£430 a week or work in a couple of hours canvassing?? Some going that mate, thats about double the average unskilled wage round here!!

Spot on Evie,

Well done on getting the work trev, good stuff,

A little bit of lightheaded joking and a shoulder nudge here and there can go a long way to getting the job, depends on the persons personality your taking too, but it defo helps to sell yourself (que bad jokes) as well as the work you will be doing,

Take some pics of the jobs trev, will be good to see!

Well done mate, like others have said it's mostly about how you present yourself with regards to customers. I won a commercial gutter clear and fascia clean because I had the balls to actually go and speak to the owner direct to see if they needed my services. Start it on Thursday and will be finished on Saturday £1100 richer. Will be using pictures of the place to present to other potentials.

Love to hear of success stories, makes up for all the hard graft and the fact people are actually out doing so, unlike the lazy barstewards out there!

Good luck with that @SkulBlaker a nice tidy figure for 3 days gutter clearing and cleaning.

I plan to start this one next week maybe Wed, after the other large commercial one I won this week which is planned for Monday, and possibly going into Tuesday as it needs a good first clean up. I look forward to payday next week!!!

Thanks mate, have to invoice them too so that's new to me so hopefully it's right, going to try and pencil them in for next year too. Try and sell the fact the gutters have little run on them and will clog back up quickly (after the job obviously lol)

Cheers @Jake, yes think image and how you present your business goes along way for both the homeowners and the commercial side, I made sure I parked my van right outside the reception area so when we went outside for a walk round he saw it and the got talking about it and went on to show him the system which seems to of impresseed him as he cleary had no idea how it all works. I try to look smart in my branded sweaters/polos too, also have branded stationary even pens lol but I think it all helps and cleary did on this one.

I shall take loads of pics of both big jobs next week and will use on my website if they are happy to let me, will upload some here too! Will try and snap some totty on the 'sly' from the country club I'm doing on Monday, with the emphasis on the clean glazing of course /emoticons/wink.png

Got the mrs lending a hand on the care homes, not sure what she will do, prob just the low down stuff why I crack on with the rest.
