Good evening chaps,

Hope you’re all well. I went to quote a roof clean earlier, usual moss removal & treatment. But after seeing the roof in question, she isn’t keen on the algo clear pro I use afterwards due to its ingredients. She asked for some alternatives, I said there may be one let me do some research (I had safe wash in mind at the time)

Has anyone used safe wash on roofs? Does it kill moss roots? And work on black algae?

https://www.safewashuk.com/

It talks about algae their website.

Thank you.

Safe wash is a bit like Marmite, some swear by it, some hate it. At the end of the day all I'd say is I can use it but can't guarantee the results, whereas using my preferred chemical I can. So if you want me to use it the price is ££, but with no guarantee, or it's ££ and I'll use my chemicals and guarantee the results.

Why doesn’t she like it ? I think most biocides are very similar in there chemical make up

I agree with PT but to be honest it sounds like she’s getting involved trying to tell you how to do your job mate. She wouldn’t tell the mechanic what parts to use! I do understand it because of the dangers of chemicals but it does seem a little overbearing. H10JD

Fragile earth works if it’s something more eco in its advertising she’s after, it does work I’ve used it on walls and roofs, mainly use Pureseal Bac or Bio though

Thanks for the replys.

Sorry a little more detail- she has chickens & hens kept in a big caged area, very close to where I’ll be scraping. As well as other pets,
So she would prefer me to use something a little less potentially harmful.
Which I totally get & understand.

I quoted to use safe wash before on a render clean, due to similar reasons, but didn’t get the job, but I was just interested if it specifically does well on moss roots & black algae on roofs. I may give them a call, but it’ll be very easy for them to just say “yes it does” or words to that effect.

I will also check out ‘Fragile earth’
Thank you.

Ok so I understand her concern and on the basis that bio is safe once it’s dry I guess the only concern is spray drift really. If you read the info on the fragile Earth product you’ll se it’s vegan, organic, classified as non-hazardous and states “totally safe for use around children and pets” - that should keep her happy I’d have thought.
If the caged area is close by a precautionary tarp up might also help set her mind at ease I carry half a dozen in the van as they’re cheap enough from screwfix

Apply it through a brush and you wouldn’t have any drift
