Scratching Sill's with brush

WCF

Help Support WCF:

I believe you are right I always use the bumpers to reduced the risk of scratching the sills as I said previously I have picked up work because another cleaner round here often scratchs sill.

Dave just out of curiosity why are you constantly tradding windows that have already being waterfed.
Firstly through having to by restriction of my equipment as I now have someone working with me and only have a 350 litre tank which is barely enough for me on my own on a good day. I’m waiting till I get a bigger van next year until I invest in a two man setup.

Secondly is through personal opinion on first cleans as through many years of experimenting with both methods on their own I believe that taking the advantages of both gives the best results when combined. Also I believe a thorough first clean makes your life a lot easier in the long run.

Can relate with working in a pair especially as I have a compact 325 my son takes 8 barrels 25l and uses a pf nano , we always start at the furthest point and work our way back and also go home most days for lunch so can top up If necessary as 90% of our work is a couple of minutes away.

Will be getting a larger van and system soon hopefully.

First cleans we are cleaning all the windows frames etc thoroughly then going back over the glass only perfect results everytime like I say though I'm never more than a few minutes drive away if low on water.

Scratching sills is a common problem, but surely could be solved by the brush manufacturers by just making the stock of the brush white instead of black?!! Why use black plastic that leaves nasty black lines on sills when 99% of windows have white frames? Seems crazy to me....

I have used almost every Gardiners Brush since they started making brushes getting on towards 10 years this year since I bought my first one and I have never saw the need for a sill brush and never tried one but sills have always come up good, I have mate whose house is surrounded by trees and the sills can be bad at times and I have checked upper sills myself and always told him to let me know if their is a issue ," It's all about technique "

Congrats btw on your moderator appointment
Thanks @Spruce

Sometimes technique will not help.

If you haven’t got room to move backwards, ie, your up against a fence etc, the ‘splay’ of a sill brush will still stop the stock of a brush rubbing the sills.

I’m on the verge of updating my poles (have 3 SLX poles), but the thought of getting extremes and putting ‘weighty’ sill brush’s on them seems pointless.

However I much prefer sill brush’s for the reasons I’ve explained, plus the SLX poles are more hardy.

Can’t make my bloody mind up ??

C’mon @Alex Gardiner, any chance of an extreme sill brush please?

I agree the tight space issue can be tricky and I can see the sill brush being better, But I'm a 5ft weakling with a dodgy elbow so couldn't handle a sill brush [emoji846]

I have yet to be convinced with the parting with money for a series 3 Xtreme pole as I thinking the wear rate and fragility of sections 1 & 2 could be a issue unless you are maintaining and layer up sections on almost weekly basis as they start wearing down, but I am lucky to own a series 2 Xtreme and the wear rate on sections is almost non existent

Yeh, good point. I’ve had my SLX poles for over 3 years and never once had to do that layering thingy that some do.

Ive never taken the poles apart either.

At the end of each day I just pour soapy water down the poles after loosening the clamps.

My worker and I sometimes fully extend the poles (they are 22s) over flat roofs etc, and they are rock solid.

So you can see where my apprehension about getting thinner poles comes from ?

Two weeks ago I lacquered one of our slx 18 poles as it is the most used pole I have gave two coats as just started to spin again a week later think it needed a couple more coats the good thing is I have had clean hands the last couple of weeks.

We hardly use the slx22 and slx25 and extensions probably last years any poles from now on will be replaced with extremes tax man can pay for them ?

Steve are you using a swivel gooseneck?

We have a new Xtreme Sill brush that is the final stages of development - just waiting on the stock tooling to be finished having tested 3D printed versions out.

Weight between 160-170g
Thanks Alex, that’s good news.

Now, being as it was my idea, I look forward to a big discount on my next order ?

No swivel, a 9” angle adapter

I personally have no problems wiping the sills with a swivel I think it’s easily when you get used to them.

Well feel free to send one out for honest impartial review!  ?

I use gardiners sill brushes and never had issue.  Recently in a moment of madness I tried the new DuPont brush, used it for 1 day and got two complaints about sills.
