Flow. Won't change on Gardiner Backpack

Hi

Went out early this morning with my son working with two Gardiner backpacks.

On second job i turned backpack to position 1 but was unable to vary the flow and it comes out on a full flow equivalent to position 2.

This resulted in using far more water than normal.

I have emailed Gardiners and awaiting a reply.I appear to be very unlucky with this backpack it's already had a new pump under guarantee fortunately.

Anyone able to clarify what might be wrong now?

I assume the controller,if so is this simple to rectify ?

If it is the controller I'd be inclined to fit a simple PWM controller like the ones you can pick up on eBay for a few £s
