I was looking for some help and advice from the seasoned water fed pole window cleaners, this has been my first year with my own Buisness and using the water fed pole system, it will be my first winter as well, it has started gttn frosty in the mornings and could do with advice and help on how to keep my system from freezing through the night, I don’t have the luxuary of parking up in a garage for the night, although I have the use of my fathers lock up for storage but it’s at the top of the road and not next to the house and it doesn’t have power either, is there any way of supplying heat with some sort of thermostat using battery’s or something, jst enough to take the chill out, I don’t fancy driving around with a gas bottle in my van.

thanks

Im one of the lucky ones and have my own drive use a oil filled electric heater.

however I do have a campervan and have a Chinese diesel heater fitted something like the link below.

There is a Facebook group called Chinese diesel heater I recommend you join it there is a few FB groups about them they are very informative.

I actually have three of them the other two havnt be installed yet, one for my ongoing man cave another for my workshop All three have different controller havnt used the other two yet and the one in my campervan as a very basic controller basic on/off and temperature controller.

the unused two have remote control and I think but don't quote me have timers.

look on eBay or alie express join the fb groups you will get much info than off me.

Inhave a genuine 2kw heater in my lwb hightop maxus and it get very toasty even in subzero temperature but the van is very well insulated.

Hi Den, whereabouts did you get your oil filled heater? Always thought about getting one to take the edge off of the frosty mornings (and to save waking up to a frozen system!).

I park my van on my drive btw

Thanks, I’ve just seen one in our utility room!

Apparently my missus bought it from Argos a couple of years ago but it was ****.

I’ll test it out in the van ??

I have a couple of old duvets that cover the tank and reels as well as the heater.

ive just bought a 180w tube heater (4ft)...waiting for amazon to deliver it..im going to fit it along the side of the tank which is just under all the pump and reel too, hopefully this should be great at keeping the frost at bay and being a slim tube im hoping i dont notice it as it will be tucked away nicely, ill keep you informed on performance

Waste of electricity them oil filled heaters. They are designed to work in well insulated rooms and not freezing cold panel vans. You will find the van will leak more warmth than the heater can kick out. Your best bet is to get a good blower heater and leave it on full power for half hour or so before you leave in the morning  to get everything defrosted. I used to work in a van with no bulk head and on the odd occasion that anything would freeze up my vans heaters would heat the whole van up on the way to work and everything would be defrosted. Another tip is to get rid of any metal connecters and replace with plastic ones. I used to use rectus fittings and they were always the first thing to freeze up.

but the danger with that method surely is that you risk a crack to any connectors, pumps or hoses with water in due to ice being expanded water, would it not be better to avoid anything freezing in the first place? may not have happed to you but eventually it will happen to someone, somewhere and that would be a right ****** start to the day

lol...how is ****** not in the banned swearing dictionary.

Well Ive used one for the last 8 years and the only thing that has frozen has been the outside ports.

Had an oil filled radiator in several different vans throughout the years and it’s worked perfectly.

Its that time again, pub time.

Have a great weekend fellow windies and come on England ??‍?

No mate, Ive had everything completely freeze up when it was really bad a good while back(the big freeze of 2012, I think)

and nothing broke or cracked. Water doesn’t expand that much and you can also keep all your valves and taps open so there is even more expansion room?

Yup I agree, when I haven't parked my van in my garage and the temp has dipped lower than the forecast, I have had to cut the hose going from my tank to the pump because of water in the hose has froze and I have had a few inches of ice, a small amount of water freezing in the hose can be a P.I.A first thing on a morning, as the old saying goes "prevention is better than cure"

I use one of the oil filled rads, (have to make sure I can park near house, as it can be a free for all in the car park) The good thing is, you can turn the thermostat right down low, so the heat only kicks in when it drops below, say 3 degrees. enough to stop any freezing and it wont cost much.

You should have just got the mrs hairdryer on it for a minute or two. Would have saved you lots of hassle.
