Truly well said Noddy. I applaud you sirthere s two camps here , the people that have been ripped off whit crash tested systrms that need to tell everybody with no proof that there better and people like me that ask the right questions , there was a 10 page thread on ciu about this where a called grippa out on a public fourm about how safe there really were
they stated that straping tanks in was unsafe , so I reminded them as a company they have a duty of care by law to publish there finding with the like of ford , vw , ect ect and with the likes of the road haulage ass. as if they have 100% proof of this and don't tell the right people and make there finding known they can be sued just by saying northing , I also invited them to the annual road haulage ass. agm to bring along there finding guess what ? they went very quite and kepted there bull to themselves after this
the bottom of the line is this millions of tonnes of cargo is moved via strapping on a daily basis and if it was safe they wouldn't do it , a good strapped in tank is as safe as a bolted in one if done right , but a badly strapped in tank is as unsafe as a ill fitted bolted down tank
quarter inc ply as a bulk head will stop most tanks from joining you in the front seat if in a crash as it as a brakeing point of 10 tonne this is why its use on flat roofs on your house so if 2 tonne of snow falls off the big roof it does land in your kitchen
also when drilling the chassie and fitting bolts to it can void the warrenty on new vans for the running gear ect ect we spoke to v.w. uk about this and they would void all running gear if we fitted the tank like this unless we got a full report done by a engernier which had to be backed up with proof
Last time we saw Noddy was in 2017.Truly well said Noddy. I applaud you sir![]()
I'm not much better in that departmentLast time we saw Noddy was in 2017.
Lots of window cleaners around, all competing for the Darwin awards. Say something and they think you are joking.A properly unsecured tank in the event of an accident will at worst result in someone's death,
this past week I have seen two lads with estate cars with a tank in the boot and a mate of mine saw a 1000ltr Wyedale tank unsecured in the back of a window cleaners van as well when I say unsecured he said no straps and no sign of anything else.
sorry i dont agree, how can straps ever be safe when they are bolted into the tie down bolts? It’s not about straps vs bolt on.
It’s about the quality of the installation.
Done well straps are fine, as is bolt on.
If Done badly both are dangerous.
Who said to use the tie downs?sorry i dont agree, how can straps ever be safe when they are bolted into the tie down bolts?
if your using proper spreader plates and the like then i can see straps being an option, but alot of the window cleaners i know who use straps just ratchet then down onto the tie down rings.Who said to use the tie downs?
Straps can and are safe if used correctly - look at the haulage industry.
Part of the problem is that the tie downs in most vans are not rated or just rated at 50kg.
If appropriate tie downs where fitted with spreader plates and then appropriately rated straps used it would probably be as good as any other bolted in framed system.
The problem is, many people don't know what the appropriate strength is. Plus people tend to cut corners and think all straps are equal or just get ones that do a couple of tons.
