Been in this business for near on 50 years, and I reckoned I'd heard it all, at least 10 times over. Went to do a quote on a 'large' house this evening (custies description).
Very secluded. High double wrought iron gates with gold painted spikes on top. Long winding drive with repro cast iron Victorian lamp posts. House surrounded with god knows how many acres of grounds, all immaculate and with discreet, tasteful lighting. Don't know how many bedrooms but there were nine dormer windows in the roof. 15 windows of various sizes in the front, 13 in the right hand side and back and then a wing with an upper floor lounge with 8 large picture windows in one side, then an indoor swimming pool with floor to ceiling glass on two sides, the pool was about 50ft x 30ft. 2 huge rooflights over the pool, 10 curved glass sections in each rooflight. 10 more large windows on the left side and 2 over a flat roof that had pitched tiled sections around it so it couldn't be accessed without climbing up the tiles to get on the flat bit - only way to do them was by climbing out from inside.
I worked out my price per 8 week visit.
Before I gave the man the price he said he wanted the extension glass roof (3 6x3 panes and then 3 more beyond them) and all the exterior lights included (25 in all). revised my price, gave him my usual sales pitch describing WFP (previous guy was trad!!) and told him what it would cost.
He nearly had a heart attack!!!
HOW MUCH WOULD YOU CHARGE?
I'll tell you later what I quoted, and what his previous windy was charging./emoticons/biggrin.png
And no, I didn't get the job!!
