Time for a new van - small and new or big and old?

The time has come to retire the piece of sh!t that is my van - it rains inside when it rains outside, there's a funny noise coming from the front, both the wing mirrors are falling off, one sliding door is permanently locked and the other permanently unlocked and now some little **** has put a pebble through the rear window (with no overlooking house and facing the garden of the house I was cleaning - beats me who catapulted the bloody thing!) had enough of spending money on it...

Looking on various sites it seems for my budget of around £4K I can get something like a 6 or 7 yo transit/vivaro/expert with 100k on the clock and an massive payload or I can get something with like a partner or berlingo which would be a 3/4 years old with 70k on the clock and would just fit my weight capacity. I only use 400litre tank plus gear, me and fuel etc. With ladder etc it will be approaching 600kg

My question is does anyone know weather it is more cost effective to run a small newer van at max weight capacity or an older van at half weight capacity?

Go for something in the middle 'like' (I hate that word) an Expert. Two side doors, 3 front seats and can carry a tonne.
That's what I've got now... Not bad but decent ones seem a little over my budget.

So you're thinking an older bigger van is better than a newer smaller van?

I'm not worried about fitting everything in, just what effect fully loading weight wise a smaller van every morning would have on it

Vivaro style vans Are hit and miss. Sme have bad injector and fuel delivery systems

I've brought one but it was a damaged van when brought mechanic has rebuilt full van then sold it to me. Couldn't be bad to it

I have a vivaro 57 plate for sale about 110,000 miles with 1050 tank, 2 man system 2 pumps and controllers, 2 clx 27 and hose reels, it's still out working but going to advertise soon as bought a new one today, can be used as a 650 and 400 ltr, had a new gear box fitted about June last year looking for £4500

I have 6 vivaro' never had problems apart from the gearboxes

On a non van note, if you are looking for more work on 'your' patch Sambo my round is up for sale as I am busy as hell with various other things.
