Traditional window cleaning in rain

Do not get me wrong, a light drizzle or a spring shower is fine but if it's cats and dogs then you'll find me van outside the cafe.

Mines 015 coming off my shed roof. I've then fixed a funnel at the bottom of the hose before it goes in the water butt. I've put a bit of resin in this funnel & it goes into the water butt at between 000 & 003.

i draw the line if the rain is horizontal ! i never wear the waterproofs [van has several sets ] and my lads dont wear them either.

the real beauty of workin in rain is the round stays up to date.

nothing worse [in my opinion] as to have to do a double workload for a few days desperately trying to catch up after bad weather

This is what was bothering me was the weather setting me back and falling behind on work.

But I think it is quite rare to rain solid ALL DAY. I think it is only a couple of day a year that you get a real SLAP of Rain. Well in the south east it is like this I dunno about Scotland.

Rain doesnt have to be a complete waste anyway. I've done many a leaflet drop in the rain.

Can you send a pic of how you have done the funnel and resin

I would but its getting dark. All it is is where the hose comes down & into the hole at the top of the butt I've got a funnel. It's from the range coz they have a little filter at the bottom of it. I then put a trowel full of resin in it. I then got an old stocking & covered the top of the funnel with it held on with elastic bend. Then made a small hole in the stocking & put the hose through it. I've also put a piece of stocking at the end of the gutter before it goes down the down pipe to stop the crap going down. It then runs down the down pipe through the hose & drips into the funnel through the resin & into the butt.

Hope this explains it.

I wipe the gutter clean once a week or so.

I just checked it after today's rain & collected 20 litres at 002 which I'm quite happy to clean with.

And I don't work in the rain. I find there's enough days in the year to catch up & if I get 1 or 2 weeks behind coz of weather most people understand. I also don't wanna get wet. Being off with flu for a week puts you behind anyway. I also don't like doing custies windows in the rain as I don't think it's fair on them. I don't agree with this well I gotta earn money. A roofer won't take a roof off if its raining just coz he's gotta earn money. This is just my opinion same as I have no problem with the ones who do clean in it. Each to there own.

it can get harsh, i only work in my town 1 day a week, mostly travel down to colchester to work where its friendly and they enjoy spending money.

Its never been much of an issue with me, i dont clean in heavy or persistant rain, but i will finish off a house in it if it starts while im working. This is usually a shower though and can wait it out for 10-20 mins.

If its light rain or drizzel on and off all day then i just work in that.

If a customer asks me not to clean their windows then i wont do them, if it really is a questionable weather day then the chances are im relieved ive got one less to do. Its easy to get annoyed if you chose to be, but they want them doing these people just not if its going to rain on them for hours after you have done them. If the customer is someone u do t like then u will probably use this as an excuse to stop cleaning them, but sometimes its a customer u want to keep as its in one of your fav roads well priced and a good payer always in and you dont want to lose that customer just because they dont want it doing in the rain.

Its likely to be a one off time they ask you not to clean them anyway as it doesnt rain everytime u do them

I work in drizzly light rain. But. If l know it"s heavy persistent pretty much in for the day l do not work.

I try and avoid rain. If I know its going to rain in afternoon, I hope to get an area finished before it starts, im always looking at the met office app on my phone for any updates, I dont like this crafty approach, but its the only way to get work done and a custy/s will always say to me "do you think its going to rain" if its looking dodgy, my response "who knows, its not just now, and we live in Scotland, so im sure it will sometime".

Not long after i first started I cleaned in rain all day on two different occasions and later on both days I had a few phone calls complaining.then there were a few who stopped me before I got started so I gave that up as a bad job. If it starts to rain and I'm half way round the house I ALWAYS finish it. A lot of the time it's just a shower anyway so I carry on regardless. It's hard to judge sometimes especially if the weather men get it wrong. Is the met weather app accurate @windsurfer?

Lol. A small chunk of my work is half hour away and I can tell you it has a forecast of it own. Once had a 10 minute snow shower in MAY and the other extreme was a couple of sunny days in February one year I nearly changed into shorts. I had to change from wooly hat to cap and even then I swear it felt like I was getting a tan.
