Traffic wardens and parking

WCF

Help Support WCF:

Hi Ray passed you this morning, in Den Road glad to see your still going after all these years.

Torquay Traffic Enforcement Officers don't talk they just ticket.

I got one last week at 08:02 must have been hiding round the corner.

This may be of interest to you and other window cleaners in Devon County Council roads it does not apply to Torquay or Plymouth Unitary Authorities,

A reply I received from Devon County Council.

As per the Devon County Council (Traffic Regulation & On Street Parking Places) Consolidation Order 2014 there is an exemption which applies to vehicles waiting in a restricted road where the driver is a window cleaner and is actively carrying out his/her duties.
This exemption applies to limited waiting bays, pay and display bays, resident permit holders parking places and loading bays provided that a notice stating the location where the driver can be located is clearly displayed in the windscreen of the vehicle. (a contact telephone number on the notice would also be beneficial).

So you can use an on street parking bay AND you dont have to buy a ticket.

Wish I knew this years ago would have saved me a fortune,

Most councils have exemptions for vehicle mounted business such as window cleaning, removals etc where the proximity of the vehicle to the work location is important.

For wijdow cleaning its cause we (many of us) have van mounted systems these days so need to park close as possible to the job.

Sign written vans and hoses trailing out the vehicle help big time to stop poor wardens being confused.

Also as stated in your exemption statement above having a notice in the window such as a small dry wipe board 'WORKING AT #7' Will help.

You are however not going to get away with parking an unsigned Astra on yellows then walking off with your ladder.

As for London Red Routes there are no exemptions ever.

Unless you are a taxi

Red routes often have marked loading bays with set operational times eg: lower clapton road where you can load/unload between 10am-4pm
