trolley or van mounted

WCF

Help Support WCF:

There are advantages & disadvantages to both, here are some that I can think of:

Trolley:

* Advantages: Cheaper than a van mount. Useful where parking is an issue. A good way to find out whether 'window cleaning is for you'. However even when you upgrade to a van mount a trolley can be put to good use for difficult to access streets or if you have someone working with you. Also a useful backup if your van is off the road.

* Disadvantages: Heavy work shiftng barrels (you'll feel it at the end of the day). Slower than a van mount - meaning less turnover per day (for me I would say roughly 30% slower). More hassle filling up 10 x 25L containers than a 350L van mounted tank. Temptation to run pump at a slower rate since you have less water - this will slow you down.

Van mount:

* Advantages: Future proof your business. Quicker than trolley/backpack. Less heavy lifting. More turnover per day. Quicker to fill up. Less likely to run out of water.

* Disadvantages: Not so good if you're just 'trying out window cleaning' since it's more of an investment.

It would also depend on the kinds of properties on your rounds. Some areas might have lots of houses with access to the backs via an alleyway. a trolley might be quicker or more convenient, than dragging the hose round

I started wfp just before winter last year from trad,i started with trolley & 5 x 25 Ltr drums filling them up as i could convert my costumers to WFP system & now 8 months on i use a tank fed pole & portable unit for awkward jobs that blow my head with water pipe getting tangled round garden pots ect. Both are quite good & dont bother me keep filling 20 ltr unit as and when need too.

Both have their place, van is clearly easier if you can (and a BP setup for awkward rear access jobs) but if you can't afford that then the BP on a trolley will certainly do the job and is far more portable - the downside being you have to deconstruct the trolley setup after each job to get it back in the car..

One thing i would say though, the 25L barrels can be a bit of a pain so if you can, get the 12L barrels instead but get double the number. That way you're only emptying half the weight at a time into the BP but still carrying the same larger amount of water reserves with you.
