Using an extension pole on first floor windows?

How do you make sure these are down well? I have an unger pole which stretches to 6 metres. Shall I just drag down my 14inch blade? And for the small windows above these big ones, use a 6 incher and drag it side ways? Then the detailing? I cant see how well I am doing it as it is metres above me, but is there any trick to all this and the detailing? Just stick a scrim on the top?

yeh me done the scrim on top...or just convert to wfp backpack.....you cant detail really well like that...i only do it on hard to reach windows and explain to the custy there may be marks.../emoticons/smile.png

iv found the best pole to use is the first 2 sections of an Unger teleplus, these 2 sections only are very light for normal upstairs work. i use a 14 inch or 6 inch Wagtail squeegee . i still prefer using my ladders for a guaranteed perfect result though

I do what cnc does. I use a wagtail on a pole only for awkward windows, and use a scrim attached to the pole with a clip or mini bungee. And I just explain why it may not be as perfect as the others, all are very understanding, not had a problem yet.

hey that clip idea be a gud un....i was just kinda balancing my scrim over the top of my squeegee and it can of course fall off...one woman has a particular annoying bathroom window which she insists on having cleaned and i could see the last windowcleaner was a bit of an elephant due to the number of broken roof tiles up there....so i just pole it but it lies on a ridge and guess where my scrim went....right down the other side and i just about got it back...so a peg is a great idea....more bloomin kit for my car...:rofl:

Yeah, pony clip, mini bungee, or elastic bands. Whatever I have on hand realy. I always keep a few in my WC pouch to save a trip to the van.

Pole work on windows is always a bit difficult, particulary when the window is not in front of you, like those that sit above conny roofs. I use a regular unger pole with an angle adapter on the end. I like to cut a line at the top of the window ( with the edge of my squeegee blade) so that I am not pulling water down. I also like to wipe my blade after each pull, but this can be difficult sometimes as time can be against you....if the window is drying quickly. I detail by either hanging a fineweave micro fibre on the end of the squeegee blade and carefully running it around the edges of the window or by sticking the micro on the tip of my pole and doing the same. I also sometimes use a clamp with a fineweave inside to detail. As other people have said....its difficult to get perfect results.

Must admit, I am curious about the wagtail. From what people say, they do take some getting use to.

I find that they are so much more versatile than a fixed squeegee.

I like to 'fan' all my windows, and the odd ones which are a bit too awkward to fan, I have the option to 'straight pull' or 'side pull' all with one squeegee.

Even on ground floor windows which go down to the floor eg. car showrooms/shops etc, I'll use my shorter home-made 'Flexi Pole' (just a length of conduit with an angle on the end).....Using the 'Flexi' I can 'fan' near enough down to the bottom and finish-off with 1 or 2 side pulls, and as I'm getting old, it doesn't arf save me poor old back not having to bend-over the lower you go ldy:.

Wagtails are especially good on car showrooms......where, you'll always find those bloody 'salesmen' seem to love entering the weekly/monthly ........

No problem for me and me Wagtail though....as I can work from the left or right of the window standing in one spot /emoticons/smile.png.

Both my partner and I use paint pads with couple small squares of double sided velcro stuck on,then hang a dry microfibre over yhe whole pad and press on to velcro to keep it in place and then go over window with it. Works a treat on any streaks/spots left over cos nice big pad surface,can press firmly and safely against glass and gets into all the corners.
