Water marks ?

Hi all

Just wanted to know what causes water marks to be left at the top of the glass ?

How are you cleaning them?, have you checked your water?

If its drop marks from the frames.. maybe you trying to rinse to fast after washing it.. wash the next window an then come back an rinse it again quickly just the glass..

My own windows do this no matter how much water I use on them. I think it may be something to do with old black window seals (not sills), because I've never seen it happen on new windows or windows where the seal is white plastic. It doesn't bother me on my home as it's only right at the top couple of inches, however, if it causes a problem for a customer I run a blade (sgueegee) along the top of the window just below the seal so that no water runs off the seal after I've left. On upstairs windows I do as quoted

Yep I get this on my house windows. Always the top inch or so has run marks. Must be the black seals.

Always wondered if that's how my customers are drying and I'm sure some must do...oh well

If its on stop of glass mot likely just seals

But try washing glass only and don't wet frame at all Then if the marks r gone u no its seals

My water was ok but i did wash the frame then rinse same window straight away.They are quite old plastic frame windows with black seals so maybe it's the seals.Will try to avoid the frame next time and do the come back method as well.

Does the hot weather affect things wouldn't have thought it would ? Surely if the water that's left on is clean it won't matter how quick it dries?

we had this on a house, and it was only when the old boy we got working for us did it , found out it was because he wasn't rinceing well and using poor flow rate (40psi) once he turned it up to normal (70psi) it all stopped

flow rate has nuffing to do with it its about the top rubber that holds the glass in if u turn water off shake brush swipe the drips off the top fraim and top rubber u wont get runs some times i rap a cloff round the brush and dry the top fraim and rubber then rince as close to the top rubber as i can with out tuching it hot water helps to prevent this but its not a fix on all windows

Sorry made a mistake the windows are actually white seals.

now I often dry wipe the top seal especially if it has two letter boxs and large pain below but never thought of using srim two wipe it.

Just a thought on this when your wiping the seal with your brush could you not actually be pushing the water into seal

sometimes after cleaning window just leave the window carry on cleaning then come back 5mins then rinse belw seal

White seals are awful

Always have issues with them

When rinsing I put the brush on the glass with the bristles right up to the rubber and swipe across then carry on rinsing about 1cm from the top

That takes the water off the top edge avoiding spots

yes that way will work some times i do have to do that but most time i just swipe drips off with brush my thaults are that pushing the seal with the brush will squeese out the water

I thought it may be this or paint from the frame ?? it wasn't the water as other different windows were ok .This is only the second time they have been cleaned with pure was doing them trad before maybe soap ?

I hate those seals

I put the brush on the glass and swipe across right up to the seal when rinsing then rinse the rest like normal from about a couple of cm below and that seems to work

White rubber seems to cause problems somehow

Could be but then I'm now doing a lot of my old trad work with a WFP now (some of them have been done every month for 12 years) and they don't spot like that.

Looks like the paint wearing off and the water is diluting the chalkiness of it to me.

I would agree with that..oxidisation of paint or upvc leaves a chalky residue if not scrubbed off and rinsed first

It's just the fact white seals were mentioned that made me think

I don't know what is different about them but i have had problems from them
