Do smart clamps come with it or is it a type of upgrade?

The latest clamps come on a new pole.

The early clamps Alex supplied were basic and didn't have the spring tensioner inside that would accommodate a pole wearing more in some places than in others. The next version had the spring tensioner but would rotate a bit if not adjusted correctly. Some windies complained about these. The latest clamps incorporate a 'guide' which reduces the amount of rotation.

Been told by gardiner the clx carbon composite poles will be ok ad I don't do high buildings, will the clx start spinning and sliding sooner than a Slx? As this is my main concern, don't wanna pay more if it's not necessary? I thought full carbon would last longer than composite??

At £128 + VAT for a fully kitted out CLX22 you can't lose. I used mine for 4 years before I bought an SLX22 as my main pole. I know a local cleaner who had a CLX27 as his main pole for about 5 years before he broke a section. Its just a bit more whippy than a full Carbon Fiber pole.

I use a clx27 as my main pole as well....love it....didn't see point buying shorter one then having to have another longer one if needed....clx27 does all my work...although Im going to quote a school tomorrow hoping it's going to be long enough...

If you have just one pole and slx22 with one extension should cover all needs up to 2 storeys Inc fsg etc.

2 poles an 18 and a 27

I liked my CLX 27 and still say it's a good pole. However, once I used an SLX, I wouldn't use a CLX as my all day pole again unless I had no choice, other than perhaps the 18.

I found that with both the 22 and the 27, I wasted a lot of energy controlling the pole at full reach. This isn't a massive problem if you don't have a lot of work at that height, but if you do I would highly recommend a pole from the SLX range.

As for having two poles, it can be very handy if you break one. I've done it twice in eight years and the first time I didn't have a spare and had to wait two days for one to arrive before I could carry on working.

I couldn't work on ladders at the time due to recent surgery on my ankle and I wouldn't choose to now either. I'd rather keep a spare pole on board

I have no issue with ladders and used them for 24-25 years with only 1 fall

It wouldn't bother me using them for a day or two but the more you use them the more chance of a fall which is what i am trying to avoid

Broke my coccyx last time which isn't fun

Sounds nasty. Had a friend that happened to. Just slipped over in her garden and landed on it.

Regards ladders though, I currently have a problem with my right knee brought on by thirty odd years of climbing ladders or so they tell me. I can work all day on my feet with little problem unless I step on a ladder or go up stairs. Then I'm in pain. When I attempt it I look like a koala bear. :laugh: They won't operate unless I'm struggling to walk as well, which I'm not thankfully.

SLX and Water Genie Vipers are my current poles of choice. Extremes are on next years shopping list.

If you want to know how good the clamps are on the Vipers here's a test NOT to be carried out on your own poles.

Me an me lad use two Phoenix face lift poles (35ft). To honest they prob middle of the range poles, as they didn't break the bank, but they are really good and have excellent section clamps. They would be even better if they were a little on the lighter side after 25 or so props but altogether they are robust an damn good poles.

i love my slx its hard wering pole mine gets jamed up with sand and salt some times and its still going strong alltho the number 1 section can no longer be clamped just befor the red bin gota be a inch up as its worn now ill probly replace it with a extreme next

Then you need to read the PDF Lee. Can't treat an extreme like an SLX. They need constant TLC and daily maintainance.

If you get a lot of grit in your pole regularly I'd stick with the SLX range unless of course money's not an issue.

They are a nice pole to use though. At least the X3 Xtreme is. Didn't ever get to use the earlier models but I broke my SLX 18 early last week and I've been thinking about getting a pole with a bit more reach but didn't want the added weight. The Xtreme 22 fit the bill nicely as its the same weight as the SLX 18.
