Then I honestly wouldn't grumble about it. You aren't badly off. Had you paid a £1000 then I would understand that.

You can make a good unit with what you have already there.

Window Cleaner Warehouse have a 425 liter single operator system with an electric hose reel for £1620.00 + delivery. But there isn't an r/o system included. Its also 75 liters smaller than what you have and yours has a better frame.

The 4040 you have the housing for will produce about 2lpm of pure. which does allow for a quicker refill.

A complete 4040 system will cost around £535.00 new and you can add another £100 for a better solenoid cut off valve and float switch.

So no you didn't get ripped off, you just, unfortunately, expected more than you thought you should have got. There is no way on earth you are going to get a working van system for £300.00.

Here's a used system complete. You could get this, strip it for the parts you need to complete your own system and the sell the frame and tanks as a skeleton on Ebay.

If you need a new membrane you will still be quids in.

You will be able to check that pumps and controller are working before you pay for it.
