Will my battery handle 2 pumps and controllers?

Yep! One day you will finish a job, go to start your vehicle and it won't. I learnt that one a long time ago but I have a mate who refuses to learn the lesson and has to buy a new battery every couple of years. (He does carry a jump pack in his van though)

Agree. Been there and tried it. Also experienced the same with 2 different vans.

They say a starter battery uses a fraction more power starting a 2 litre diesel as a Shurflo pump uses in an hour. Run a pump for a few hours, start the van 10 times a day and the charge in the starter battery soon gets depleted. In winter we use more current with headlights on, reduced battery efficiency and cold engine starting than in summer, so this isn't a good time for a starter battery being used this time of the year.

I use a van battery not a leisure battery and always have.

You can flatten it daily with no damage.

I don't understand the obsession with leisure batteries as in my kangoo I used the same van battery(not the one to start the van a separate one) for 2 years and still works fine.

Just charge it every day or 2 and no problems.

I'm pretty sure brodex use them instead of leisure batteries.

i have ruined 2 starter batteries running them down with my pump, one was less than a year old.

as long as your jobs are short you will have no problem.

I run 2 controllers, 2 pumps and 2 powered reels....

Never had an issue with low leisure battery

i did however have a flat van battery only the other day as I left my hazard lights on whilst working?

If you are only doing short run's I would be inclined to charge the van battery every month depending on the age of the battery, I replaced mine earlier this year and put it on charge around every 6 weeks just to keep it tip top, mine is usually depleted by around 25%

Left Sunderland this morning at 5, been to Oxford, Swindon, Horsham, Uxbridge and currently having my first pint just outside Daventry, circa 570 miles. My van batteries are fully charged, just need to charge my batteries now  :beerchug:

Fortunately i I have about a 1/2 hour run into work so battery should be good.

i think the culprit was my hazard lights which were left on for about 3 hours.

maybe they draw a lot of power from the battery.

i might see if I can fix some sort of LED hazard light on the roof rack and run it off my leisure battery....not sure how hard that would be.

Just wondering if any other members have hazard beacon or indicator lights fitted to their van.

i work in London and am often double parked or parked over drives etc so rather then just leave the van all switched off it’s good to leave my hazard lights on, also helps with traffic wardens, they seem to leave me alone  as it looks like I’m only there temporarily.
