My poor old Vw 02 reg car is in the garage tomorrow. Its not in the best of health and I get a feeling I might be getting some bad news from my mechanic. Just in case I have to start looking for another car, what car would you lads and lasses out there recommend from a trad point of view.

Also, how quickly can you buy and get a car on the road.....dont want to lose too many days

Not to sure what car but time wise if you buy a good one with mot and road tax you can get it on the road that day! Just need to phone you insurance company to change details, but some charge for it! mate had to pay £20-30 I think admin charge.

Escort estate I had was brilliant & there still around.
Even the latest model would be 13 years old now lol
On the right track tho.

My vote would be a ford mondeo, estate! /emoticons/biggrin.png

Mondeo estate has the length for ladders and big boot. Volvo v40 are a bit smaller but good work horses. Would you go for another v-dub

The vw has been good for me, but it is compact. If I have to buy a new car then will probably go for something bigger, but dont want a massive insurance premium. I currently pay 186 pounds per annum.

I used an astra estate back in my carpet cleaning day's. Never let me down until a box lorry turned over and squashed the back end /emoticons/biggrin.png

Mondeo Mk3 Estate

Focus estate.. Had one about 4 years ago, brilliant cars, plenty of room in the back, would look class with the back windows colour coded then sign written

I know but gotta couple round here that use them & I did myself. Mine was a w reg there's are m reg & just for window cleaning. There long cheap to run spacious & reliable. Mondeo would be my 2nd choice. If its reliable dont matter how old it is. My vans a 96 plate but touchwood has never let me down. Phew just relised it's 17 years old lol

How about this?
don't show me stuff like that i use to love my mini had to get rid 6 year ago when my lad was born couldn't fit the pram in it, i kep thinking about getting a mini van only problem is i haven't got 10k spare to buy a decent one

Well, its not good news about the car. Its still in the garage.....sounds like the timing belt may have gone. It could be a very expensive bill. I might have to make a decision as to whether to scrap the car and buy a new one or get the work done, bill paid and then maybe look at trading the car in over the next few weeks. Meanwhile, I am not getting any work done.
