TDS Readings

TDS (Total Dissolved Solids)

The readings that show on most TDS meters are parts per million. In simple terms how dirty it is. A low tds like say 50 for example is very damn good a reading of 200+ is really not so great.

The readings will be different in different areas. I am in Cornwall and my reading is 95-100.

You can grab a tds meter from here and many other places http://www.gardinerpolesystems.co.uk/cgi-bin/sh000002.pl?REFPAGE=http://www.gardinerpolesystems.co.uk/acatalog/catalogbody.html&WD=tds&PN=tdsez-water-quality-test-meter-by-hm-digital.html

We have created a map here for users to show their readings so people get an idea in different areas. http://windowcleaningforums.co.uk/pages/ppmmap/

Yes, thanks, very interesting. I was looking on you tube people collecting rain water for wfp, so is it low enough to use without any further treatment?

I would say no as even rainwater falling from the sky maybe good enough by the time it flows from a roof into guttering the rainwater becomes contaminated so ppm can rises quite high. For me I harvest it then the water gets past through pre filters then a di setup before being pumped into the van tank.

Yes that's favourable. You just need a DI vessel filled with mixed bed resin to bring it down to 000ppm, what size you get depends on your space availability & budget although 11L should be minimum but 25L is best. Then in about a month get another same sized DI vessel + resin so that when the TDS starts to creep up to 005ppm you insert the new DI vessel after the other to maintain pure water production. Then when the TDS rises again you swap the DIs around & replace the second vessel's resin, this will save you a lot in resin costs in long term.

cool cheers for that info mate, ive got the 600 ltr tank in the back garden which will be my mail tank and then i'll fill my 25 ltr tanks from that for the trolley but i'll only be using about 2-3 25 ltr tanks a week to start as i to do more wfp work.

do i just connect the outside cold water tap into a di vessel then i comes out pure and into the holding tank?

cool im thinking of just going for the big 25ltr resin tank, how long on average does the resin last and to change it do you just open the tank empty it out and put new resin in?

Find out with this calculator- can't paste link so Google gardiner resin calculator.

Yeah empty out the old resin & give it a rinse out then refill it.
