Gutter camera

WCF

Help Support WCF:

hey smurf, I'd already found both those

I thought hitchen was in Leicestershire but it's near Luton, a bit far...

I ruled it out cause I didn't think it looked as well made as the midland ladder product, which I was planning on buying today :)

I imagine post would be £20 so rather get the product with guarantee

Thanks for posting the links.

Cheapest I've found ankalad for is 93 with vat and post, anyone know of a cheaper one?

Smurf, do I still need to buy a leveller/base plate think like the ladderm8rx? I want my ladders St age as can be.

Looking into fall arrest vests too

No probs @Jimroot

Regarding pricing is down to the individual really as there is no right or wrong price you should charge as after all it is your business so you can charge what you like.

As an example I recently completed a 2 storey 120m gutter clearing job that worked out roughly £5 per linear metre which was completed in 5 hours on my own. I even suprised myself I managed to get it all done in less than a day as I allowed 2 days in my diary just incase I needed to take longer.

Those sorts of jobs don't come in very often but makes a nice change to earn a good wack out of it as other smaller jobs can be right pigs to do. /emoticons/smile.png

That sounds a good price to me

For leveling the ladder whilst using an ankalad I've found those rubber laddermat works well but I wouldn't recommend them to be use without an ankalad myself.

This is what I'm on about as works well to level a bps ladder with the built in stabaliser bar at the bottom of the ladder too

Or you can just count the gutter brackets as are roughly set 600- 800mm apart but just round them up to 1m is another quick way. I never tell the customer I charge so much per metre as you can shoot yourself in the foot if you do.

Looks good smurf, a bit like a quartered rubber door mat. I'm going to find out about a gutter job a friend of the family had done, the gutter guy couldn't complete it as he couldn't access above a flat roof extension.

Smurf, do you mind me asking which region you are in? If it's London, I shalt have to adjust my idea of pricing :-/

I don't live in a posh/expensive area at all compared to other areas in the country.

What I have found out though is ppl can be price conditioned by the likes of window cleaners say charging low to clean ppls windows so they dont want to pay very much to have their gutters sorted out by them either for some strange reason. This does not really affect my pricing at all to be honest as I pick up loads of work where they already have a regular window cleaner.

There is probably a very good reason to why that other cleaner did not do part of the guttering on your friends house.

Unless he didn't have the kit, will try to find out. Maybe he had ladder no vac, or vis versa. The majority of gutter men seem to be winging it

Hi Smurf, I'm trying to get an old iphone 3 to attach to a pole for gutter inspection wifi screen (as you were right the ipad will be too heavy I didn't think that one through!), then transfer it to the vac pole for the cleaning process...

Can I ask, what length of pole is needed to get the camera to roof gutter level? I imagine, with some taller older houses this will be a 5 or 6m pole.

Is the gopro bakpak vital for the 'show the customer' bit or can that be done via the iphone? (never owned a smart phone))

Hope your illness is on the wane, I had a three week cold and sinus infection, ended just before Xmas :feet:

Thanks for all the intel!

If you go to B&Q you can get a Harris 5m painters pole for about £15 that would get you started.

The clamps are not very good so at some point you could get yourself a decent hybrid or full carbon wfp that also could be used for washing down fascias etc.

Also the harris pole has an acme thread so can be used with progutter tool too for clearing gutter runs.

I personally stay away from really tall Victorian buildings using ladders but have done quite a few using a guttervac instead but can be bloody hard work. I use a stripped down old hybrid 35' wfp to do gutter surveys on taller buildings up to 3 storey.

I prefer having the bacpac on the camera myself for gutter surveys as I've found it quicker and easier as most of my quotes including a fully recorded gutter survey takes me on average about 10mins to gain the work. Mind you I'm a good salesman but that camera with the bacpac fitted is a great sales tool to help win work as a picture paints a thousand words and all that. /emoticons/smile.png

Love the pics Smurf /emoticons/smile.png

I'm looking into a used Pure Freedom set up, trolley and pure making kit, if I get that I'll have just enough left over to do the cheap survey kit for now, but should be easier to make cash with the WFP.

Checking out vans later in the week.

I hope to be able to share my own gutter weed-slaying pics soon :hehehe:

Another question, do you use a really long extension cable and use the one plug-in and move the vac around, or ask the home owner to re-site the plug front and back? Also, how did the 4kwh vac cope on a normal fuse rated at 3kwh peak, did you hard wire a fuse/RCD to the end?

You can't go wrong with a pf trolley if it's in good condition as I still use mine be it static in the van now

Does it come with any poles etc and what size ro/di comes with it?

For my 240 volt vacs I use an extention reel about 30m I think with built in rcd which runs a 3000 watt vac ok. Just don't connect it to a power socket with a 5amp fuse that some have in garages with electric doors or to an extention cable in a house or garage running other stuff as its must be plugged in to a 16 amp socket on it's own. Sometimes it's easier to use a different socket to power the vac but you will soon figure out what works best for each job you do.

I've also used 4200 watt 110 volt vacs that I needed a step-down transformer or genny and 32 amp extension cables which was a right pain in the **** if I'm honest. Also downright dangerous on a 240 volt 16 amp socket so not recommended to run the vac will all 3 motors running.
