Agree, if you had eyes too big for yer belly... ? Come on let's hear it, what did you 'ave?Sounds expensive but guess it depends what you had
We are now quoting jobs and telling customers if material costs go up between quoting and doing the job the price will be passed on to them all have been fine with that . We went from paying £12 a drum for hypo up to £36 , it’s now come down again but is still dearer at £23 a drum . Virosol has also gone up as have most of the things we use .I had to get some Screwfix No Nonsense decking oil this week and its gone up from £22 to £35 since couple of months ago
It’s not prohibitive but it all eats into the profits , if fuel prices go up your shopping in the supermarket will go up each week why shouldn’t we pass on some or most of the extra costsLet's get real here, we have people claiming to work for £100+ an hour but the material costs, which are 10% of the cost, have gone up 50%, are now prohibitive
That's a different cost, if your hourly rate needs to go up because your cost of living goes up then fair enough. However don't complain about your material costs have gone up less than 5% of your costs and all of a sudden you're going to struggle. Sometimes people need to actually realise what's going on and act accordingly. It’s not prohibitive but it all eats into the profits , if fuel prices go up your shopping in the supermarket will go up each week why shouldn’t we pass on some or most of the extra costs
I just took the missus to miller and carter for dinner and cost me £70Let's get real here, we have people claiming to work for £100+ an hour but the material costs, which are 10% of the cost, have gone up 50%, are now prohibitive
I have the best answer to that, get faster. Micro analyse what is taking the time and can easily be cut by using a different procedure. It might be clearing the sills on a conny with a wet rag before using the brush or you use the brush and all you do is spread the dirt from the sills all over the place. Never forget to leave front door gleaming because its the first thing the customer notices. If they come in and she it then this puts them in a good mood to begin with. The one window I always give more time to is their Kitchen window. Customers usually spend more time looking through this window especially if a sink is under it. Hard jobs and ones you could do without can be done quickly and if they drop you then its a win win result. I usually find they won't drop you because no one else wants to clean them. Bad payers get move on to DD or SO and if they will not comply then they get dropped immediately. There is some tips to get you thinking about and put in place. Last one I do is regarding lunch. I buy it the day before or make it up and bring it with me at start of day. This saves precious time waiting in queues or trying to find a place. I have a kettle in van and Power Station so I can make a pot noodle. I make it before I clean a massive bungalow and when I finish it is ready to eat.I can get by with products doubling in price. But every week everything is creeping up and up and it seems like no end to it.. Makes it very hard to assess the situation. So although we put up our customers prices up ideally we will need to continue to increase and I don't really want to do that again the first quarter next year but may have to keep up with the rising costs... Just wish prices would plateau so we are on level playing ground...
I can easily swallow the material price our hourly rates are very good just finished a price rise for every single job we do , but if you continue to do that without acting your profits will decrease week on week month on month , the fuel price increase is still costing us all a lot more than before diesel is still well over £1.85 per ltr ware it was less than £1.50 not long ago . By passing the materials price increase on to our customers we are doing exactly the same as all other service providers,That's a different cost, if your hourly rate needs to go up because your cost of living goes up then fair enough. But you said you're now quoting customers and warning them if your material costs go up they will be charged extra. So are you going to tell Mrs Jones that because your Hypo has gone up from £3 for the job to £5 now you're going to have to charge her another £2 on the £300 jobI can easily swallow the material price our hourly rates are very good just finished a price rise for every single job we do , but if you continue to do that without acting your profits will decrease week on week month on month , the fuel price increase is still costing us all a lot more than before diesel is still well over £1.85 per ltr ware it was less than £1.50 not long ago . That’s what the supermarkets do so why not , and it’s not £2 the price has doubled and was treble at one point, an avarage increase per job of approx £36-50 would you be happy covering that every day of the week ? That’s between £180- 250 per week increase which ime not prepared to pay for .But you said you're now quoting customers and warning them if your material costs go up they will be charged extra.
