Anyone working in between Xmas and New year?

I'm sorry but I think the whole tone of this comment is somewhat unnecessary and unkind. For all you know some people actually are desperate, so why belittle them?
And if you're earning 100 grand a year good luck to you, but that's not a typical income in this industry.

Then you've taken it the wrong way and chose to see an Insult rather than solid advice; but everyone takes offence these days it seems....

The guy was moaning about not being able to take time off over new year. I'm just offering a solution and suggesting that if he still has 5 working days before Christmas he can just work like a trojan and earn good money now rather than drag it out over Christmas. I don't earn anywhere near 100k I'm far too lazy for that only work 20 hours or so a week but if I put in 40 plus like I'm suggesting to this chap then at 50 quid an hour there's no reason he couldn't earn a couple of grand. He must have the work so just pull it forward.

This is a fair point. To be able to work next week means the work is there, so pulling it forward and taking the week off should be possible. If it's not possible to bring it forward due to other commitments then best bite the bullet and get on with it, probably get extra tips anyway and possibly one off work if you need it.

Would the OP really be aking if he can work, when admitting he was struggling for money, if he had the potential to knock a £1000's of work out if he had it

He might have to much work that there isn't enough space to pull ot a week infront.

I usually take 2 weeks off, I do sometimes get bored though and have went out 1 or 2 days between it depending on if I was behind or not. No ones ever said anything to me before I've always started at 10 though.

He's skint so I very much doubt he has too much work
I'm skint but got too much work. Wish there was 2 more weeks before Christmas week to get everyone in before that expected it. Always put too much pressure on myself. Kids off til the 11th and partner says she can't take anymore annual leave so I'm taking the hit. Been like this since June and 4k down on last year due to her full-time hours.

Need to work out how next year will pan out. Either work more in the rain or Saturdays or til dusk more. Everyone's different home life affects things differently. She's suggesting PAYE or shift work but 7 years in I know I can make this work and the flexibility and earning potential is there just need to knuckle down and put this year behind.

To the OP crack on if need be. Text before if you need to and maybe choose customers that you know won't mind like retired ones. Like others say most service industry will be open. All the best whatever happens. I've got a handful that have asked for a clean as close to NYE as superstitious and think clean house 1st Jan brings good luck! ??

This really doesn't make much sense. Your skint but you have to much work ?. Your wife's suggesting you go back to paye ? But your convinced you can make it work ?

If its not working out for you and you have to much work then it's never going to work out for you. It might just be me but what your saying doesn't add up.

If you have 30 hours+ a week of regular window cleaning work I really don't understand how you can be skint.

If you have too much work and are not getting the income you need then maybe put your prices up a decent amount (just a small chunk at a time) even if you loose some you will be better off and be able to keep up.

I am surprised paye could give you more income but I have no idea of your background.

Hope you have a prosperous New Year.

I'm planning to work Friday and Saturday (29th & 30th), but not early starts. Will let you know how I get on!

Also, are you guys working on £50/hour on residential? If so, I need to put my prices up!

Sorry, probably not explained well enough. Lol.

It's more about hours available to work due to childcare. It's just us two as only family available for help is 120 miles away.

She thinks shift work would allow better childcare routine on my days off etc over summer.

She thinks PAYE would be better for regular non weather dependent income but I have enough work to be better than any PAYE.

She's not worked full time in 7 years so that's the reason my hours have been down. Not managed 30+ hours a week since June it would seem looking at income over those months.

I put prices up in April this year and round valuation and income forecast on George would be fine it's more practical ways to work more hours around childcare/partners work as she's only got finite annual leave. It's been the bone of contention since she took on full time work it's affected my working hours. £18 breakfast club or £18 for after school club and about £110 for full day during school hols and if it's a washout it's money wasted. That's the quandary.

Just need to knuckle down and work 40+ hours when lighter nights come and or weekends. In a few years they'll be latch key kids and can fend for themselves lol ??

I know how that can be sometimes, but we aren't going to reveal everything to everyone on here, my wife and I don't have kids so no idea how hard that can hit if you have no option but to be off when schools are closed.

Tough years for whatever reason will easily be forgotten as you move forward I have been there and done them and come out the other side and potentially still have a challenging time ahead, I push myself to limits at times to be able to achieve targets and take care of my wife, people without challenging personal circumstances won't always understand because we ain't laying it all out.

Cheers @Iron Giant. Appreciate it. All the best for Christmas and the New Year to everyone on here as well. Top forum and always interesting discussions and supportive ?

Don’t waste quality time with your kids working weekends.
You mention working in the rain, do it. Invest in 2-3 quality waterproof coats so you can change them during the day.
Also buy a cricket style waterproof hat. Baseball caps are no good as the water will run down your back.
Life is so short and flies by. Enjoy your weekends ?

It's difficult with kids when you need 2 incomes.

My partner works nights so it allows me the freedom to work days.

But if she ever got a good job working days then the only real option for me would be to employ someone and grow the business as paying for childcare is just too expensive for my liking.

Sorry for not getting the picture. We don't have kids so can't fully understand the effort you both have to put in.

I realise this is very easy to say but if you account for weather (missed days) who earns the least? Surely who ever earns the least should do the lions share of childcare? That doesn't really help with overall income but is your partners job something that could be done out of hrs, i.e she does days childcare and you do nights?
Don't answer the above questions as they are for you both to work out - I'm sure you have had lots of discussions.

Above all look after each other and be nice.
Have a great Christmas and a prosperous New Year.

If your paying for child care so you can get to work then do the sums and work out what's the bare minimum needed to make that day to cover things and atleast go out and do that amount.

Its not always about prices. My prices are nothing special 12 or 13 quid average for a semi but i can knock out 25 of them in a 6 hour day without much fuss. Get your head down and crack on no stopping, no messing. Leccy reels, lightweight poles, full flow, knowing your route off by heart and having slips ready to go etc just become a machine. Dump all the jobs that slow you down like poor parking, excessive talkers and velux windows etc and you`ll soon start to fly through work.
