I personally hate working with wordpress & joomla, its just too fiddly,... Give me plain old HTML & javascript any day.

I often build from templates, and find with a bit of effort you can get a really good site. A couple I did recently are:

http://www.jdwindowcleaningservices.co.uk/

http://windowcleaningscotland.co.uk/

I don't claim to be an SEO expert, but always advise to concentrate on good quality unique content first & foremost, and all SEO work is made easier after that.

just a very basic free webs one, not bothered about search engines or generating work from the site, its just something extra for the customers to look at and to add a more professional look to business cards, stationary etc

You still need to have a cookie policy and privacy policy. This has been the law since May and the ICO are starting to clamp down on this!

yh i might get round to it one day, but of the billions of free sites out there i doubt im gonna have someone knocking on my door about it, particularly as its not got any seo on it and probably wouldnt come up in any google search?

I don't even know what to write on my cookie policy, is there a plugin thing on Wordpress for cookie policies?
Bung ths bad boy on there http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/cookie-law-info/
Nearly all websites use cookies. The online cookie checker tools will detect if your site has them installed but won't check for third party cookies, which are what most cookies in fact are! It's safe to assume that if you have a website, it uses cookies one way or another.

Just a simple policy link in the footer of your website will suffice.

If you use a content management system or statcounter then maybe,.. a plain html & javascript site with a cgiemail contact form,.. no cookies is there?

So do you not need it to pop up in your face, I thought the eu cookie law meant you had to have it plainly visible and a visitor must not have to scroll or read through the content before getting to the cookie statement link??
