looks like a clean break. i would Guess that each time you accelerated or braked those straps flexed at that point and metal fatigue caused the break .

Metal fatigue on a brand new fit? unless the straps were loose it shouldn't fatigue that quickly there wouldn't be enough movement?

Ring them up, tell them it broke and lucky it didn't cause an accident.

how old are the straps neil?you say you've had them in your vivaro for over a year.even so they shouldn't snap.get your receipt and tell them what happened.get a refund.get a steel frame, safe as houses, all the best.

Am I missing summat? where's the straps? I only see a metal bracket. Straps are probably stronger than a steel cage to be honest & providing the correct grade of strap, fitted correctly to appropriate fixings- a strap should never fail. We used to sling tens of tonnes of steel bars with cranes when I worked in the steel industry, they were prefered to chains.

looks to me as if the break was where it looks rusty , on a weld? . i might be wrong but i think if you use a metal strap to secure anything it must be made in 1 piece, not joined anywhere by welding

Had the straps in my vivaro for a year but they took them and repainted them put new bolts in and metal brackets, they shouldn't be fitting straps in people's vans if they don't do the job properly if I crashed that would of done f all!

And yep that's where the break is and the strap is hanging over the silver bracket which is suppose to be up against the tank

Yeah metal straps aren't good, but nothing wrong with a welded joint, they can if done right of coarse be stronger than the metal is.

i would take it back and play hell! Are the straps put through your existing bolts that were in the floor? If so they will not have been strong enough to hold your tank, when i had mine installed it was put in a stainless steel frame with four bolts through the floor and a steel plate under the van as well, i was told it had to be done like that for safety to reduce the risk of the tank crushing you in a crash. I will get a photo of mine up tomorrow to show you.

The factory fitted D rings that are in my floor are not that strong and are screwed into nylon plugs, its worth checking yours neil

Cheers mate , I just have bolt through and nut underneath awcs, new bolts were put in mate

What do you lot think I should say to them on Monday?

I would certainly make them fit a frame free of charge at the very least. Don't let them keep the broken straps unless they do so as you can use those to get what they owe you. Bearing in mind you lost a lot of buisness due to their failings of course. And I'm sure you'll make that point clear to them: ) or you might be tempted to get trading standards and health and safety officials involved. But you must also bare in mind that it is your responsibility to have a secure load. That's how it's seen in the eyes of the law I'm afraid.

Omnipole told me that it's secure and won't go no where, I'm hearing this from there manager lol

They must have seen you coming Neil - £240 to fit four bolts and a couple of straps
I second this! Got my straps off eBay for about £10 and strapped it down myself! To be fair, mines only a 250litre tank tho. Not sure I'd trust straps at 500kg.....

The D rings on most vehicles aren't meant for really heavy loads.

The exceptions are the ones on my pick up and maybe others? they are solid metal and part of the frame.

Put a strap through those and around a load, and it aint going nowhere lol

Mine have same bolts but no plate underneath which I will tell them tomorrow I want it done properly lol
