Hello all, I've recently purchased a 4040 system.. however I'd like to add a proper Gate valve to the waste outlet on the stainless steel housing, and add a pressure gauge to the water inlet side... could any of you give me a list of parts I need.. I have a feeling I may need a couple of reducers 3/4 to 1/2 and t-pieces but I haven't set one up before. Any help would be great. Thanks

If you have 1/2 ports on your filter housings I would put pressure gauges on either side (inlet and outlet) of the prefilters.

For the gate valve;

The GAPS water website says these port fittings are 1/2"BSPT (T for taper).

I presuming that this r/o is up and running. If so then you should be able to reuse other hose fittings from your original setup.

This is what I would consider. You need to look at your system and ensure that these components will work for you with your setup and change the order accordingly.

When using this gate valve you must never completely close it as you could well damage your membrane if you do. You should have at least 60% waste to 40% pure minimum which could be tweeked either way for best tds pure output.

I have 2 pressure gauges on my setup. This is so I can compare the psi of the tap water pressure with the pressure after the prefilters. It tells me if the sediment filter is getting blocked up with sediment. Its not such a problem these days as our water is of better quality.

Thank you very much, just what I needed. Thanks for taking the time to write a reply ?

I’ve stopped using metal fittings into plastic as there is a risk of cracking the thread. Most ports on these R/O units are NPT. However some of the stuff coming out of China I can never work if it’s BSP or NPT etc.. They seem to have a different thread.

Thank you.

That's just 'deleted' my previous response @Cottonlung.

Yes you have to be careful about screwing metal fittings into plastic, especially when using ptfe tape. The very fact the GAPs water specs on their r/o has tapered threads meaning one has to be more cautious not to over tighten.

I also see Collins Water advertise their 4040 housings with bsp threaded ports.

I honestly can't remember what the threads were on my 4040 Champ housing. I think they were NPT but not 100% sure. I used BSP fittings.
