8mm vs 6mm main hose

6m requires MORE pressure as there is increased resistance to the pump. As mentioned before I had to increase my pressure cut off on my controller by one notch when I went over to 6mm from 8mm because the increase in resistance kept cutting the pump out.

i have only used 8mm on my reel. poles is right 100mtrs of 8mm is heavy when full of water. In fact after some measuring on my round I was able to cut down to about 60mtrs on my reels which helps with weight as I'm lifting the reel in and out of van all day. If your fixing the reel in the back of the van this is not an issue.
WWC comment on flows is an interesting one, not something i had thought about before, but maybe I'll reconsider weather to respool with 6 or 8mm now.

Agree - my 8mm hose was cut down to 60-70 metres and has really made a difference to my working day. It's much lighter and prefer 8mm.

If anyone wants to get PAID to have theirs cut then just go to 23A The High Street,Kemptown, Brighton and start cleaning the windows directly above it and some crazy woman will run out and cut your hose - then call the Police and settle for £75 within 24hrs........true story.

According to Williamson pumps, they advised that they would refuse warranty on window cleaner pumps used with small bore hose sizes as the pump has to work harder than with 1/2".

So the pump has to work harder as it has to push the water faster through a smaller bore hose. But the speed of the pump needs to be reduced to achieve the same flow as through minibore hose.

well my pumps use less pressure on 6mm than 8mm.

5mm of pole hose is very short when compared to 100 meters of hose on the reel. I'm going to be very interested to read how Damo is getting on with his smaller bore hose.

Another thought. If you have 2 x 2mm jets and 5 mm pole hose and change the jets to 2 x 3mm will the pole hose now become the bottleneck? As there will be no pressure at the jets, how will that effect the stream of water coming out of the jets?

Well we shall find out as I have spooled up with 100 meters of 6mm as the colour was right! /emoticons/smile.png) Previously I have only used 8mm so may take a minute or three to get used to it.

I would also be interested in how you are getting on with your microbore once the weather improves. So please keep us posted. Having only used minibore, you will immediately be able to see the difference, if any.

Well today is the first full on day I have done with micro (6mm) but I also have followed instruction to calibrate pumps correctly and what I have noted is whilst I thought my day was going the same as always, nothing notably different, then when I got home and plugged the tank in to fill I noted that I have used half of the water I normally do on this day of the month.

Why? Not sure, I did nothing different except for as mentioned above.

I have also noted it is easier pulling it around corners and wheelies etc.

I'm using 5mm Tel and have been for 8 months it's Sureclean high pressure went out and tried microbore again last week couldn't stand it with all the snagging and tangling I am backpack only and couldn't stand lugging it about I'm shortly gonna be attaching a reel to a trolley with 30 metres of this.

I upcycled a 30m electric extension reel and custom made the centre plate with male hose lock connector for quick and easy plumbing

I swapped over to 6mm from 8mm a couple of years ago. 6mm is much lighter and more manageable. You can also get more hose on the reel if you need to.

Hello mate - yes we stuck with 6mm 

The biggest benefit I noted was it gets stuck on wheelie bin wheels a lot less than 8mm.

Are you still using that green hose? Isn't it a bit of a health & safety faux pas? We used to use a hose that was whiteish in colour and it would "dissappear" on some paving, quite worrying if people were about. Now using yellow and much happier from the H&S point of view.

The green hose died a long time back -- I got hi-viz yellow off ebay - really durable too

Hey Darren. Any chance of a link for the one you’ve used? My only worry with eBay is the quality of the product. Unfortunately I had hose delivered a few years ago from a big WC supplier (you’ll remember the one) that contaminated the water. So hesitant to buy from somewhere I don’t know.

Gardiners don't do it anymore, they link to Daqua or Grippa. Daqua use the same supplier and I assume Grippa do also. I ordered new stuff from Daqua, but was hoping to find some of the highvise yellow one also. Will be mounting second reel soon and a different colour would be better, but can't find highvise in 6mm.
